Well, happy new year all ! First day back at work yesterday, and I was determined to anything else but work hahaha!
Found some nice 20mm alu block plate and thought I'd have a crack at making some sort of stuffing tube holder
(I know, it's just extra bling, lol) but I thought hey its free why not

Still needs some finishing though[sm=wink_smile.gif]

Ok, been having a play with getting things set out and the CoG @ 33%, did some math ( blimey its been a while!)
I really doubt I can manoeuvre the motor under the hatch in such a way it will be covered,
and still gain decent balance, as Wayne mentioned before- She is Ass heavy.
so I thought, why not move the drivers cowl by shifting the hatch forward a touch to cover it,

may mean a bit of extra mod. but by nature an engineer, this appeals to me.
Although I will try not to 'over' engineers things! some times I cant help myself,[sm=tongue_smile.gif]TeHe

^ Bodging from a blank canvas - how can it fail !?[sm=72_72.gif] > ( rhetorical question btw)

Thanks for tolerating my newbie build over exctiment, but I am really excited about getting this in the water to see what it can do,
(hopefully not "crash & burn ) and of course looking forward the summer lots

Through this message board that i have gained info and friends and advice that able me to build such a toy/machine,
so for that I am truefully gratefull indeed[sm=shades_smile.gif]

Information exchange and sharing of ideas is what the forum is intended to do.

A new hatch would do it. Good idea.

Thought I'd use the existing hatch, and remove a section of the front and glass it back onto the rear portion,
anternatively it does fit on back to front, with the hatch bubble covering the engine, but looks 'odd' ..,lol

I think that would look pretty good Sam. The canopy on the hatch is a little far back for my tastes particularly an would solve your problem of wanting the motor hidden. Still havent found the measurements, darn wife hides all my stuff, if I wanted it put "away" Id do it my darn self !
Ahh well looks like shes coming along real well good luck sam an cant wait to see it running, your making me jealous

Thats ok Wayne hehe no rush, projects on hold now anyway as we have just picked up the keys to our new flat !
Going to have to build me a 'project' area also before I start again, as I dont think the wife will appreciate the possibility of epoxy/shavings/swarf on the new carpets[sm=red_smile.gif]
Always thought the hatch bubble was a bit too far back aswell[:-]
Only things left to buy : some birch ply for the transom support, a prop and the radio gear, but dont know when I'll next have some free cash[:@] Doh!

Hows your cat coming along btw.

Sam.

I ordered some bits for it, the new ecu from etti an some serious batts 2s1p 4500 mah so should be pretty fast, at least up to your .45. But same here with the money florida is no cheapie on insurance rates I could have bought two of my cars for what Im paying in insurance. there making me pay like I might get hit by a hurricane or something. All well, its going slowly also. I picked up a lil rigger from double dog an have all the bits to put that together so Id have something to run on the weekends should have that ready for my birthday on friday! I even started brewing my own beer going to have 32L of the cold stuff for me an the crew. What a better way to celebrate the wasting of another year than good friends, good beer, an maybe a fast lil rigger. Good luck with the project sam an keep us posted!

ps I'll send a link your way when I have the rigger up just for fun[8D]

Nice boat man! I dig it! I'm real curious to see your speeds as I am building a fast electric version of this boat to race this year. I have seen videos and the hull looks like it handles well. Should be a hoot!

Another ebay bargain won last night ! Irvine quiet pipe for .40 size engines for £11.01 (love winning things by 1p,lol), doesnt look like it has a pressure fitting, so I guess I goto to install one, by hook or by crook (anyone know any rough lengths I should be looking at for installing the pipe, hoping it might fit inside the boat
and poke the tail end out of the transom??!!)

Getting massive withdrawl symptons from this hobby at the moment[], roll on the spring, or even better the summer ! for some beaach boat action[8D]
Luckily all the videos and pictures and chat about RC boating are keeping me going.

On another note, going to be moving House next Tuesday and just bought a nice work desk for the build, was meant for all my DJ gear, but that can wait

Cheers all

Well a quick spin and polish of the pipe on the lathe yesterday had her looking all shiny and brand new again
Think I may have under-estimated the size of these pipes from the ebay advert, this one is quite monstrous![8D]

Hi all , almost a year since I last posted on this thread!! well after the death of my AJ hull and the fact the electrics
kept getting wet as per no radio box I decided to plough some cash into this project and hopefully get it running by the beginning of August so I can take it down the beach on my 2 week break
Got some ply on order for the transom support and will order the prop and flexhex next week.

had a little chop about with the engine mount today, may even go to the trouble of drilling through the bolts to make them super
light weight!lol

more updates soon.

Bit more fettling today with the mount, just needs 'finishing' and maybe painting or clear lacquering?

Hi,your builds are nearly as long as mine!
I have a similar cat 29",toyed with nitro and even had a 29 car motor modded with a flywheel and watercooled head,BUT decided to go electric instead, far simpler to build and more reliable...
I didnt like the idea of building a tiny radio box,big ones for my gas hulls yes,but not small ones..
Looking forward to seeing yours run..

Hi Brod, yeah I have too many hobbies, lol so they seem to go in rotation!
Funnily enough just having a look at radio box config. does seem tight but should prove ok I think.

Is your build finished, or any links or pics to it.

Cheers
Sam.

Hi,i use the Maplins eledtrical project boxes for my gas/petrol boats, done right ,totally waterproof.Even when totallt submerged.
Too big for these cats though, shame.
Which box is that you are using.
My hull is one of these;
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/29-Phantom-cat...3A1%7C294%3A30

I'm still waiting for a Medusa motor from the US.
It will be powered by 5S lipo.
I've had this hull a while now and decided a few months ago to dust the cobwebs.

I know what you mean about too many hobbies,i have a loft literally full of helis, gas, nitro and electric.
Plus my main hobby is bodybuilding so darting between the three is tricky to find the proper time needed.
Keep us informed of your build as i might still get another cat hull for the nitro motor i have..

Good old maplins eh always come up trumps!
Very nice looking hull you have and so similar to mine.

That Radio box is from the Aquacraft Nitrohammer, took me a while to find the right one,
and looking at it agin this morning I think i will be able to use the tray insert to my advantage
just means I'll have to have the rudder on the left, im not racing this boat so should be fine?!

I know one day I'll be wanting a Gasser[:@]

Alright little update

Support made for transom out of 1/8 marine ply (wow this stuff is strong) got the prop and coupler on order,
just need another servo as one died along with the aquajet! and the 15 minute epoxy syringe should be arriving very soon!
only thing left to buy is some fuel hose, starter &belt and some sort of L bracket to hold the radio box in although i may make that from ali.

Epoxied in the transom support yesterday, first time using epoxy went went pretty well,
drilled and installed hardware this morning!

Tuned pipe comes right over the rudder support so should be easy making a bracket to hold the pipe up

Hi,any more progress on the build?
Certainly not been the weather for the smaller boats here, always windy and raining.
Finally got mine running..LOL..
Albeit electric it will run similar to yours.no bad traits, corners well, just watch the cofg as like most cats will start to take off into wind..
Heres a bit of video of ours, with Jack my son at the helm,he thinks its great, this was the first run before dark at a sheltered lake nr. us.
Keep us informed of progress,if any, i might still have a go at another small cat,but nitro this time..
