***Warbirds Over Delaware 2009 - RCU Event Coverage***
Iam here in Delaware to cover the 2009 edition of Warbirds Over Delaware. There are several that Ihave always wanted to go to, and Warbirds Over Delaware has always been at the top of that list. Well,I finally made it. I am here at the event to cover it for RCUso that we can bring the event to all or our RCU members who can't make it here.
Warbirds Over Delaware is held in the north part of Delaware in Lum's Pond State Park. The site consists of a grass runway surrounded by cornfields and woods, but don't let that fool you at all as the site is beautiful and is well maintained. The weather today was great as well with the temps in the 70's and low 80's, although the wind did play a bit on the pilots as it conitinued to shift for most of the day.
We will of course be doing a full write-up of the event in the RCUMagazine once the event is over. But I do want to bring some of the sites of today's flying. I do hope you enjoy these pictures.

Normally when Iam on-site doing coverage of events like this Ilike to pick a flight from the day and upload the video of that flight. However, Iam going to change that up a little bit here. Something happened at the end of the day that has to rank up there as probably one of the most bizarre events ever to have happened at a flying event. Unfortunately I was up talking to the guys from Balsa USA when this happened, so Ididn't see this first hand or get video. But luckily there were a couple of video cameras when it happened that did capture the event. Iwould like to thank Christoph Kahr from Greenville, Sc and "Fast Eddie"Leuter from Downingtown, Pa for giving me their copy of the video so that I could bring it to all of you. I'd also like to thank Scott Stauffer of SKSvideo for helping pull the video from the cameras while we were on-site and getting my a copy so that Icould bring it here tonight.
So.... what happened you ask??
I was at Balsa USAtalking when somebody walked by and said a groundhog had ran out and bitten an airplane. This sounded so crazy that I was sure it was a joke. But they swore it was true. So I headed back down to the flight-line to see if I could figure out what happened. Iwas thinking that if it did happen there would be just a couple of little holes in the plane. Well, as I got down there the story got even wilder as they swore this groundhog ran out and was chasing pilots on the field before it attacked a plane. ThenI saw the plane (see the picture below) and my jaw about hit the floor!!WOW!!!! The bite actually broke several stringers in the fuselage of the plane. From here you just have to watch the video to see what happened. I

The second picture below was the "Posse" that was forming up to go after the groundhog.
Iam absolutely certain that this will be one of those tales that gets told at fly-ins, club meetings, flying fields, in the online forums, and anywhere else that pilots congregate together for years to come.So remember that you saw it here first on RCU.

This calls for a tee shirt. Something with the furry little beaste, with a airplane in his
paws, with a bite taken out of the plane, the text should say
"ummm, tastes like chicken"

LMAO. That is unreal. I would have never believed it if it wasn't on video. That would have gone down as Warbirds over Delaware Myth without video. Great coverage Ken and thank those guys for that video.

That incident was pretty bizarre. If I was'nt right there to witness it, I would'nt believe it either. When it bit thru the fence, it ran right at me then went after the plane. Another milestone in RC history happened on Friday at the noon time break. "Warbirds Over Delaware" broke a world record of 34 WWI aircraft in the air at one time. This record included 1/4 and 1/3 scale aircraft. It was a sight to see, and even more of a thrill to have flown in the event. I'm hoping someone will post up video of this too. It will be documented on SKS Video "Warbirds Over Delaware 2009", but it would be nice for all RCU members to see a quick clip of the event.

I will have complete video of the WW1 gaggle flight as well as the rest of the noon show when the complete coverage of Warbirds Over Delaware is posted in the RCUMagazine.

RE: ***Warbirds Over Delaware 2009 - RCU Event Coverage***
Hello everyone,
Thanks to all of the pilots, vendors, event staff, supporters, and spectators for a great event!
While things are still fresh, I thought I'd send out a note to the pilots who have utilized the WOD Pilot Database. A lot of the information, particularly outdated aircraft information, needs to be updated or deleted. The Pilot Pre-Registration forms are printed directly from information that is in the database, and this information can only be added, changed, or deleted by the pilots themselves.
Please take a couple of minutes to update your pilot and aircraft information.
Follow these simple instructions:
1. Log into the Warbirds Over Delaware Pilot Database with your login info that you've received in your welcome email.
2. Select "I Need To Update My Current Information" and then click "Continue".
3. Select "View My Aircraft Information" and then click "Continue".
4. To change info on or delete a saved plane, select "Change Information About One Of The Above Aircraft" and then click "Continue". If you wish to add a plane, select "Add A New Aircraft".
5. Select the plane you wish to edit or delete and click "View Selected Aircraft".
6. Make changes or select "[C*A*U*T*I*O*N] DELETE THIS AIRCRAFT FROM MY LIST" and click "Submit.
Please let me know if you have any issues or questions.
Best,
Brian

Ken,
Just have to say it. You and RCU have brought a whole new standard of coverage to the events this year. I'm sure there are others on your RCU "team" that deserve some credit but I don't know them nor have I seen them. You my friend are all over the place like a tasmaniean devil catching everything that happens. I love how you are doing the coverage now and have begun to depend on it. RCU and specifically you have caused me to go right to the RCU site and check it first before anything else. Heck, when I see you at an event I go back all the way back to my car and put my camera away and just wait for your thread to start.
Top Gun, Joe Nall and now WOD! I have to say it is awesome.........perfect coverage in every way, IMHO! Thank you very much. See you at Monster Planes.
Sincerely,
Scott Prossen

Saturday was by far the biggest day at the event. The pits where full of planes and the sidelines were full of spectators. There was a waiting line pretty much all day to get on the flightline to fly, which meant that there were planes in the air almost constantly!!!!
Here is a bit of the action from Saturday
