RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
Good to see more cup racers out there.
Yama86, did you just buy the aluminum shock bodys, or did you buy the whole aluminum shock set? I'm just curious as to what parts get used from the stock shocks if you just buy the aluminum bodys?
I FINALLY got mine back up and running, It took HPI forever to get spare parts out it seems like. I was running a novak havok 8.5 system in mine, but the front diff input cup couldn't handle that much power and gave out pretty quick. But the car was pretty much out of hand with all that power anyways so I've decided to switch to a stock silver can. I'm definately much happier with the car now, and as soon as tower has the hop-ups in stock, I'll be buying some more goodies for it.
Here are a few updated shots of mine.
Does anyone else have problems with your tires rubbing on the inside of the 510 body? I might end up spraying the outside of the fender flares in a flat black just to hide the paint rubbing off problem.

My tires used to rub the inside of the body, so I just moved the body up by one hole on the body posts. That took care of the problem for me.

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
I run a 17T motor in mine, and it is good power for the scale of the car.
There is a lot of fun to be had with brushless but sometimes the more scale speeds are more fun to drive.
Cheers,
Skottoman

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
Agreed with the 5700KV sidewinder combo... the car is insanely fast... but I learned how to tune the esc via the castle link and its a lot more drivable... In my throtle curve I gave it the last 25% of the throttle to full throttle so 75% of throttle position only 60% of the power is deliver the last 40% of the power is deliverd in the last 25% of throttle... lol i hope that makes sense... I'll post a pic of the settings.. Also have punch control to 75% and lowest motor timing. I had jacked up the braking power to 100% and that was ludicrous it would lock the wheels in a blink. I now have it at 70% and thats a good balance.
I also noticed there is 0 drive train rattle when the wheels are off.... hmm starting to think that my wheels are out of balance and wobble or something.
Anyway for upgrades, im ordering the threaded shock bodies, and shock rings and the aluminum turnbuckles... also going to get a 23tooth pinion to keep those insane speeds down at full throttle... according to gear chart... http://www.gearchart.com
Transmission ratio: 2.437
Motor rpm: 7.4V x 5700KV = 42180
Wheel diameter: 60mm
Spur: 65
Pinion: 30
Speed: 56.15 Mph or 90.35 Km/h
So ya thats a bit insane and the motor heats up quite well...
With a 23 pinion the speed would be 43.05 Mph or 69.26 Km/h
Hopefully someone finds this useful.
Cheers,
Raz

I just bought the shock bodies (87070) and the shock spring adjusters (87071). You have to reuse every part of the stock setup but the plastic shock body itself, and be sure to pull the rubber o-ring out of the plastic shock body to put in the new aluminum body. You have to use part #13 off of the 85282 shock part set (that comes in the box with your Cup Racer kit) to hold the rubber o-ring in the aluminum body.
My tires used to rub the inside of the body, so I just moved the body up by one hole on the body posts. That took care of the problem for me.

I agree with you skottoman, I have all kinds of brushless motors and ESC's lying around, but lately the silver cans just seem to suit the cars better, lol. Maybe I'm just getting older.
Glad to hear you can harness the brushless power in your cup racer ro.sniper, 56 MPH is flying for such a little car! Hopefully your drivetrain holds up
I wish more people around me had these cars, I'd like to do some parking lot racing.
I found this picture while I was out looking around the intraweb, some nice matte chrome wheels, and it looks to be the new porsche syle wheel.

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
It's funny, because I'm mostly a Tamiya guy, but these cup racers have drawn me away from the GB01 porsche kits Tamiya is making.
I'm waiting for the Cup Racer Porsche kit to come out....
Although I am still lusting after the new Tamiya Black Porsche 1/12 kit, but the cup racer is looking better all the time. Those scale Porsche wheels look the shiznit.
What to do....
Cheers,
Skottoman

I'll be ordering one as soon as they come out. By then my 240z will be all thrashed and I'll need a new body and wheels for that too!
Damn RC! Always draining the bank account! Hahaha...
Yeah, that porsche is awesome.

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
Yes I know what you mean, I can't stop buying stuff either, lol. I got a set of aluminum shocks, spring set, and swaybars on the way for the cup racer. I messed up when I cup one of the stock shock parts off the parts tree, and I can't stop it from leaking now, so now seems like a good time to upgrade them, lol.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what a brushless equivilent of a stock silver can would be power wise? I'd like to keep the same amount of power it currently has, but it would be nice to have the efficientcy and maintanance of the brushless. I'd imagine you get some pretty long run times as well (Not that I'm not with a silver can already)

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
Thanks Darth, I might upgrade to a 17.5 eventually. Can anyone recomend one that has a fairly small ESC? I had a novak but that ESC is huge, something considerably smaller would be great.
I got around to painting the wheel arches finally, turned out pretty good. Now I just have to keep it rubber side down so I don't scratch the paint off, lol.

That looks very nice. Especially with the black wheel arches. I have a NIB 510 sitting in my basement now...
So many ways to paint these things, and so many ways to make them look awesome. I guess there are tons of ways to not make them look awesome as well. haha..
Cheers,
Skottoman

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
I just finished my cup racer build. Notice the Z240 wheels. My first kit build was a fun build. This thing hauls with a stock trinity and stock geraing I think faster than my stock slash. Temps get like 120-135 is that too hot

RE: New M-Chassis from HPI !
Just out of curiosity, would glueing the foam inserts to the rim help prevent a tire from wearing like this? Or is it just something you have to live with when you run a little negative camber? In case the picture is hard to see, it's the inner edges of my tires, it seems like the foam inserts have shifted towards the outer edges of the tire and caused the inner edges to not have much support and they are showing a very heavily worn line around them.
Anyone have a tip to help remedy it for my next set of tires? Do people run extra foam maybe?
