Default Associate B2/B3 part options

I've just spent 2 hours looking through the forums and I can't find ANYTHING that helps.

I just traded for a B3 and I'm looking for parts. Any info and links of websites, forums, etc. that can help me with parts, recommended tuning, etc. would be HUGELY appreciated.

For example......I am looking for wheels and tires. RPM Products has a great section on their website about cross referencing wheels for different vehicles...but they only list Trucks. I had some Losi wheels and tires.....they fit at the axle......but not proper for width and they rub on the rear shocks slightly. Does anybody have a 'conversion' of wheel applications that can be used for the B2/B3? Can I use some sort of Hex on the pins of the axles and use Traxxas Bandit wheels? Tamiya wheels? Etc.?

Does the B4 Wheels fit? B4 body fit? Shocks? Tower Hobbies show the B2/B3 parts becoming more and more "Discontinued/Out of Stock".....basically 'extinct'. So, I guess that means we are going to be more resourceful in finding our parts and fulfillment needs. Thanks for your time, ladies and gents!

Thanks.....but I didn't find anything B2/B3 related in the searches. Well, at least not more than 7 items. But, thanks for your time anyway.

These should work-

There are a number of B4/T4 parts that will work with the older buggies like the B2 and B3.

Thanks, SD2006. I know that not many people have much time.....but it'd be great if anyone could list what they know(for certain) what works between the B2/3 and the B4.

As soon as I start to see what fits/works....perfectly or mildly modified......I promise to make a list here on this forum!

Thanks for all the help guys!

Default RE: Associate B2/B3 part options

I recently went through the same thing with my Factory Team B3. I actually had the most luck at a LHS that happened to have a bunch of B2/B3 parts still in stock. I have a feeling that they will never get more once what they have sells, so I wish I had bought a few things.

Instead I simply bought a FT T4. However, I still have my B3 roller and I don't know whether to keep it and take a chance with parts in the future, or simply try to sell it as is.

[link=http://www.teamassociated.com/ae/b4/b4_parts.htm]This Page[/link] on Team Associated's site lists the parts for the B4. In a column labeled Off Road it lists all the off road vehicles that particular part works on. You should be able to use this list to find a specific part for the B4 and check to see if it is specified for the B3 also. If it isn't listed that doesn't mean you can't make it work, but if it is listed you know it works.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Edit: By the way, unfortunately it looks like a lot of parts are listed only for the B4. Doesn't mean they couldn't be made to work, but just that they are different.

About the wheels, I can say for a certain that both front wheels shown in the picture work perfectly fine on my B3. The one on the left appears to be the same as the wheel Tower currently sells for be B4. It's the newer wide type wheel and has the bearing spacer teeth. I plan to place an order for these in the next week or two, if they don't work I'll be sure to let everyone know.

FTT4Maniac,

I think you are CORRECT!!!!!!!!!! I just did a search for this Phoenix BX.......I found some pics and they were SPOT ON with the B3 I have in my shop!

Outstanding!!!!!!

Now.....the question is.....will the aftermarket reckonize this, whip out their old molds and provide us with some part options again for, at least, a little while?!?!?!?!

I should hope so.....but, I guess we'll see.

Thanks for the HUGE input!

However, if anyone else has anything else to add, please do so!

I was wrong about the rear wheels. The B4 rear wheels have a different offset than the B2/B3 wheels and may rub against the bottom of the shocks, depending on how your rear suspension is configured. B4 front wheels seem to work OK.

Good to know, have you found a supplier for these parts? The only one I know of is thundertiger4U.com and they're not exactly on the ball.

Thanks...

No, I have not found anyone yet.

I did, however, check out thundertiger4u as well. I remember at one time when I was investigating the ZK2/ZT2 mini trucks, someone had a link for a supplier of Thunder Tiger parts that was very up-to-date with a nice online site. I've tried to find that link again in the forums.....but, of course, when you need it you can never find it!

I am thinking of emailing Thunder Tiger themselves to see what they have to say. But, I am sure they'll lead me to the nearest Hobby Shop....which, of course, will tell me that they don't carry the Thunder Tiger line even though they can place stuff on order. And they'll probably be hesitant to actually order from them as well.

I've noticed that overseas the sites are much better for Thunder Tiger. If I can find a decent one(in English) with fair shipping, I'll probably go that route.

Thanks again for all your input guys.

I realize this is sort of a dead thread, but I think I have found the best way to find parts on www.thundertiger4u.com. First, you have to look on www.thundertiger.com to find the part number of the part you are looking for, they even have pictures!!! It's amazing how many parts look exactly like the Associated parts! All you do is look up the vehicle that matches your needs, the PhoenixBX in the case of the B3, and at the bottom are replacement parts and option parts. Then you take that part number, addttr to the front, and put it in the search box at thundertiger4u.com. The rear wheels look exactly right, so I took a chance and ordered five pair(part number TTRPD8982). When I get them in I'll post again and tell you if they fit. I would attach a pic of the wheel, but I'm having trouble connecting to the thundertiger.com website, in the meantime, here is the pic from thundertiger4u of the whole buggy. I just read that Thunder Tiger bought out Associated, so apparently they are making a lot of parts for AEvehicles.

Thanks for the info, ObsoleteBuggy. After lots of frustration.....I ended up trading my B3 for something else.

I knew that Thunder Tiger had bought Associated and I knew the Phoenix BX was a "born-again" B3. I just wish that I could have been able to buy parts from a reliable online source. Had I known what you've told me now......I might have kept it. But, yes....Please tell us how your experience plays out as we will all be interested. Many other people may want to know what to do with their B3/T3 that they still have and need parts for. Who knows.....if you have good results and I find another good deal on a B3...?!?!?!?!

Thanks again for your time and input.

I don't know about the B3, but you can still get most of the parts for the T3 brand new at quite a few different vendors. However, anything older than the 3 series of AE vehicles and the parts become very hard to find. I'll have to check out this site and see if they have any RC10, 10T, and T2 parts! If they do that'd be sweet! Thanks for the info, and yeah, make sure and keep us posted as to wether or not the rims work, how long shipping was, etc...

Still waiting on my Thunder Tiger wheels, but in the meantime, I had an idea. You know how the B4 wheels have more offset than the B3 wheels? What if you replaced the rear arms, turnbuckles, and cvd/dogbones with the longer T3 pieces? I don't know the measurements, but if someone had a T3 lying around I would be interested to see how it fits!  We would be really lucky to be able to use the more readily available T3 parts to make B4 wheels usable.  Just a thought, but interesting.

Well, I just got an email from TT4U and they said they are doing internal maintenance and they couldn't ship my order until Monday, 7/6 and Iplaced the orderthe morning of Friday, 6/26. "Not exactly on the ball" is right! I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but in the meantime, here is a pic of those most coveted rear wheels! I haven't had any problems with B4 front wheels, but I ordered 2 pair of fronts along with the rears anyway.

Got the wheels today... PERFECT!!!!!! The only difference I can see (besides the color) is that the Thunder Tiger wheels have vent holes, and if you don't want them, I guess you could use electrical tape to seal them. The rears are 1-3/8" wide and the fronts are 1" wide, both are 2.2" diameter. The B3 bearings fit in the fronts, but the rear axle holes seem alittle loose. After Icinched down the nuts, itfelt solid,so I can deal with it. Rear wheel part number at ThunderTiger4U.com: TTRPD8982, front: TTRPD8979. Here's a pic.

It's me again fellas, I just found out the Duratrax Nitro Evader BX rear wheels fit, but make the rear end 0.186 inches narrower than the stock wheels.  That's less than a quarter inch, very doable in a pinch. You may have to ream out the axle holes a little to make them fit comfortably though. The good news is, they sell them at Tower Hobbies in four colors, white, yellow, blue and green.  I have no idea about the Duratrax front wheels, but I like the B4 front wheels just fine.

i'd say really in a pinch for the duratrax rims after a few sets of stockers for my evader i just run AE or proline rims for the T4 now, they crack like no tommorow on a truck you may be better off with a buggy but i've gone thru 3 sets of rimes before switching over
