46% Christen Eagle II
[size=1]
If there is anybody out there still scratch building,I now have all the parts finished for the 46% christen eagle II.
The plans used were Frank Knoll 38% eagle (actually 34%) you will have to scale them up i can provide dimensions to enlarge them.
I do not sell plans so don't ask I do believe in the copyright system.
Wing span is 110" and uses a 6" true turn ultimate spinner to complete the scale outline.
the parts available are the 2 place canopy, cowling, wheel pants left and right ,landing gear cuffs,Cabane to top wing fairing,I struts, and wheel pant axle covers
I had another thread some where about this model but cant find it any more, i know some guys were interested
If i get any interest in the parts I will send the molds to fiberglass specialties and have them make the parts since i am not in the fiberglass business and i have contacted them about the project
and are willing to undertake making the parts if there is enough interest.
I do have a source for the canopies.
due to its size this is not for the faint of heart, the parts will not be inexpensive, the canopy for example will be $75.00 since it uses (1) 2'x4' sheet of plastic to make one
I have 2 in the paint stage right now and will have some pictures soon I am expecting a finished weight of 45 pounds with a 3w 160 4cyl for power, the other will use a 3w 157 or equivalent
thanks for all who have contacted me in the past about this model it has been 2 years of delays since I started this.

RE: 46% Christen Eagle II
Searching the Net this company seems to be the last one to produce the original Frank Knoll kit (85" wingspan):
RC Model Engineering,
Willow Grove, PA
[email protected]
Here is a link to an article on how the original Frank Knoll version flew:
http://www.stephenfaust.com/giantsca...ects-eagle.htm
If someone can find a plans source they could probably be talked into selling those at 46%, or at a minimum, selling the original plans version so that anyone can have their own copy enlarged.

Same here Greg. I'm traveling now but will try to make time for some phone calls and see what I can find. I'll post the results.
If someone else finds a source for the plans please post here.
Giantfly, I would be interested in a set of parts for a future project. If Fiberglass Specialties doesn't want to handle the parts due to low volume I would be interested in producing the fiberglass parts. I've been doing that for full scale components for over 25 years (wet lay-up, RTM, VRTM, SCRIMP, Pre-Preg, etc).
I'll be at Joe Nall this year. Hint, hint.

RE: 46% Christen Eagle II
the prototype flew for the first time today no incident
weight 49 pounds 12 oz. flew like a big bird 3w 160 4 cyl for power,
32x11 prop.It is much faster than i expected for a bipe, the scale air foil did well very low drag and took a long time to slow down despite drag of the flying wires,
landed and bounced because i had elevator on low rate,
(note to self when landing always check to see on high rates)
landing gear absorbed the bounce real well all seemed fine,
will go over it tonight and go back to the field to wring it out tomorrow
i might do some experimenting with props as it may help my deceleration issues also the prop noise
Jmb canisters are very effective cant hear the engine only prop noise but sounded really good
