Another great LHS is closing/UPDATE
Venture Hobbies in Wheeling, il is closing their doors soon. I went there last week to pick up a plane I was trying sell, it was like I lost an old friend.

I'm down in Texas now but when I lived in Illinois I went to Venture Hobbies many times. What a great store. I remember Don, Tom and the Doc, that worked there. They knew RC because the flew RC. A lot of the shops now have people working there that don't know the difference between a glow plug and a LiPo.
Is Al's Hobbies still going in Elmhurst? And is Stantons still there in Chicago?

His getting into the hobby business has a good bit of amusement. The name Venture was selected because Don thought that it was really a "venture" as he really wanted to be a school teacher.
Don sold out Venture as it was his "retirement". I will have to stick my nose into that story. I haven't been by there very much in the last several years, but I guess even that little bit is gone. Really sad. I have two kids, each only about a mile from the store, so that is a reason to visit the area every so often.
Maybe a bit in poor taste to say so, however once Don sold out and became an advisor so to speak, it took very little time before one could notice the changes in atmosphere, and also that attention to airplanes and customer satisfaction was veering off into another direction. It's too bad when that happens, because those attitudes have closed a lot of LHSs.

It all depends on why they have closed. If the owners of the shop wanted to retire and just sell off their inventory, then I am very happy for them. If they were forced to close because of a continued economic decline, then I wish the best for all the owners, and hope they do okay.
So far, this economy has started to turn a corner for the best. I had laid off 20-employees since the first of the year/end of last year. I have called back 15 of those employees.
From a business prespective, there are other economic factors that indicate we are on the mend and our sales forcast looks strong for the 4th quarter. I am excited!!!!
