Ace foam wing cores
Guys, may be a dumb question but the Ace wing cores from ehobbies are sold as a pair of cores right? Just checking as the description had me wondering cause it lists the span at 17". I assume this was each core in the set, but thought I'd check before I order some. I picked up a set of plans for the Taperwing 1/2a pylon racer and was going to build one after I finish this profile I'm working on.

Are we talking about the Ace mini foam wings ? 17 7/8" span X 5 1/2" chord . I just dug out my orignal Ace cores ( still in the box) and got 1 1/2 oz's or 42.5grams for the pair.

No!
I purchased these at a swap meet back in 99, old unused from another modeler.
Box has ACE R/C ,address 116 W. 19th St. Higginsville Missouri 64037, shows both the tapered and constant cord wings with a tick on the constant (they are) 17/% semi symetrical, designed by Owen Kampen Ace No-50K102 , 192.5sq.in.
These have lines of small bumps(pinhead size) approx 1/2" apart
Sorry webcam is down so no pictures

RE: Ace foam wing cores
Thanks guys, didn't want to make a second order because I didn't ask.
On a side note, the Taperwing plans I got were old blueline reproductions. When I got them and unfolded them, I was hit with a definite smell of ammonia. Brought back a ton of memories as we used to make log prints at my job with an old Bambino blue line ammonia printer.

Stewart, that's the new ones. The old ones are kinda like BRICKS. Smooth and heavy.
btw, my boxes look identical to the originals, except the gold seal on the end of the box. TT did a wonderful job updating these cores!

Oh well , old or new , looks like I scored a nice light set of wings. Still undecided as to how to build them up. I think with dihedral at full span as then they will fit several plans I have.

Hey Rog! 4 yrs? Nah, it hasn't been that long. I just recently got back to NC from NY and points east. Been chasing after work and not been flying at all, with the exception of one day with my Dad up on Long Island. Hopefully I can secure a decent job here back home and get back into flying this fall. Hope all's been well with you and the 1/2a Crew! Tim[8D]

The original injection molded ACE cores were all over the map for weight, at least the samples I have from a few kits and one loose set in a box. I have a single panel that weighs close to 50 grams or something stupid, and was overfilled and ballooned out to a 18 or 19% thick section. I also have pairs that weigh only a bit more than that one panel. The original airfoil they were designed around is AFAIK a NACA 2415, but all my efforts to scale one up and down incrementally to match failed. When I used a 16.5% section and truncated the TE for the balsa stock, it fit the plan views and diecut wing saddles perfectly.
When we're comparing weights we better make sure we're talking about tapered or constant chord.. makes a bit of difference.
I just had two sets of laser cut built-up ACE wing replacement parts made, and are building those up now to check 'em out.
