Default Best 2 Stroke Glow Engine for A GP 25% Yak?

I currently have a OS200Fs in there now and it's just not enough power. It just flies the plane but I can't do aerobatics with any authority at all. The plane weighs 15# dry and that is with 8oz. added up front to balance. I'm looking at the OS 1.60 as an alternative but would be open to suggestions on something else. I don't want to convert to gas either. Is that 1.60 really powerful enough to fly a 15# plane with ample power to spare? Thanks in advance!

I had an OS 160fx in a GP Yak. It was 13lbs 13 ozs. It flew well. It wasn't unlimited vertical, and it could hover at about 85 - 90% power.
The Yak unfortunately went in due to a receiver battery failure.
The motor is now in the GP Giant Reactor. It weighs 15lbs, but ironically hovers better than the Yak which was lighter. It may have something to do with the Reactors cowl being much smaller than the Yak and the prop is able to grab more air, don't know.

On the Yak I needed to add 8 ozs of lead to the front of the cowl along with the receivers battery being up front as well.

Here is a video of the 160 pulling the 15 lb reactor for reference.

Im thinking the same. Engine costs less....fuel costs less....cant lose.

Thanks for the advice but I'd rather stick to glow for now. I'm still on FM and don't really want to upgrade my radio.
That Reactor seemed to fly good with the 160. I'll have to keep an eye out for a good deal on one unless something better comes along. It would be nice if OS came out with an AX version like the 120AX, only maybe a 1.75AX. That would be very cool.

Go gas, cheaper for fuel and less mess. Just think of how many gallons of gas for the same price of 15 or 20 % glow.

I have the Yak with an OS 1.60, and around 12 oz in the nose to balance, and a dry wirght of 13 #.

I use a 17x13 APC prop, and it really pulls the plane with authority. I tried a 17x10 with good results too. I dont 3D so I can't comment on hovering, blenders etc...

Very tough call. Do you buy a new engine or do you buy a new plane? Because of the weight, the OS-1.60 does not work. It seems foolish to buy a 1.60, then add 8 to 12 oz of weight in the nose of a plane that is heavy and highly wing loaded. Have you considerd putting your OS-200 in one of those Cermark 70 inch planes ($300) and selling the GP Yak?

I own this plane and recently put a DA-50 in it when I wrecked my beloved GP Ultimate. Originally bought this plane with a Brillelli 46(not enough power either). The DA makes it fast and powerful but it is too highly wing loaded to be a good 3D plane, although not bad for IMAC. For 3D I do not think there is a good solution for this plane, it is just too heavy and the wing area is just not enough. High wing loading is a serious problem with this plane and you cannot fix it by changing engines.

My Recommendation: Keep the OS-200 in it until you crash or sell the YAK.

Good Luck!

Brain, if you are committed to the expense of glow, then I would suggest a YS170. Good luck!

Put the motor into an EF Yak or one of the magic hands, they are sub 12 pounds RTF, or get a Moki 2.10 or a big super tiger for the GP

Thank you everyone! Here's the deal, I removed the OS 200 from the Yak and am putting it into a GP Giles 202 1/4 scale I got on Ebay (nearly 10 years old). This combo is going to be a monster. The Yak may receive a OS BGX-1 3500. What about that? B-

That sounds like an improvement. More HP, more engine weight, but you shoud be able to lose the 8 oz you had to add with the 200. And the best part - no more $$

Why not gas with an FM radio?????????????? That doesn't make the first bit of sense. People have done it for years and years. You are spending money on the wrong class of plane-the in-betweeners as they are called. Personally, I think its crazy to spend that kind of money on a slimer-sell the Yak....GP missed the ball badly on this series except for the Ultimate. You can have a "true" 50cc plane with a 50cc gas engine and fly it forever at a fraction of the cost in the long run. But...its your money and happiness not mine, I just think you are cutting yourself short here.
