I understand that ET has beefed up the struts for that reason. I should have a set arriving anyday now...I'll let you know if they are different than the early ones you may have. Otherwise I'll have to explore the ones you got from CJM....

What did ET beef up ? the ones I got had 1/2 struts about 3/4 the up and 1/4 at the bottom very small axles and the air cylinder were only 1/2 with stamped houseing.

Since nobody has flown one, how did he know they were bad? Doesnt his website say that they fly what they sell? No junk?

Good question, I'm not sure. I was told these were the "new better struts". They insert into a 1/2 inch hole in the retract and expand out to 5/8 inch diameter at the top. The axles are 3/16. Are these the same as the original ones you received or different?

Yes same retracts to lite duty if your plane comes out to be 30 plus pounds. Was the cost 295.00 with everthing? the uints are not bad just to lite duty for this airplane and wieght i went with 3/4 in struts and 1/4 axles due to the leneth 11in.
I did not read anywhere that it states they are junk or nogood is there a post with that statment

I have not seen anything that said they are junk or no good. As far as I know no one has flown this Bearcat yet with a gas engine. I fly off pavement (not grass) so I thought these looked strong enough?? I'll probably try them and then know for sure. Worst case if they bend I'll replace them.

Did test flight on the Bearcat (E T ) the plane tracts very sright down the runway takes off in about 150 ft.Trim setting was very easy I did find that the alirons are very sencative I put on low rate (50%) of factory setting which made a very nice flying plane loop and rolls were very easy and stright foward.the only trouble I had was a leaking retract cylined for the trial wheel ( was my own air cylined) the centry jet retracts worked very good landing was also very smoth all in all very nice flying plane and looks good in the air.

Excellent, would LOVE to see it since your the first to get one going. I still find it odd that there are no build threads, detail pics, much info actually on the arf. Hmm

EXCELLENT... Thanks for the report WR.

Forgive me if I missed it in the thread but, do you have a final weight on your Bearcat?

Thanks, Tobe

My Bearcat weight came out at 33lbs with a GT80 zenoah 24x10 prop (I will change to a 23/10 on the next flight ) I put all my CG weight up front over the engine,I built a tray over the engine for the lead and battery only had to add 16oz of weight made it just balance at the CG I think I will add about 4oz more because it was a little touchey on landing.

I agree...this is a strange forum...no pics, no videos, no nothing...very odd. post your pics, videos, lesson learned etc...the good and the bad.

Yup, my thinking exactly, makes me think there is too much bad. Already had a retract update. Hope the rest is good, I still like to get one someday when the funds allow it.

WR450,
great job and glad to hear the maiden went well.
I see the folks asking for pics. I'll send some as soon as I get back from the business trip I am on. I spent time detailing a cockpit while waiting on the retracts. I'm close to getting in the air. You can slap this ARF together quickly as it does go together nicely or be like me and take forever doing a cockpit, rivits on the wings, detailing guns and changing the markings...
So glad to hear it flies good....I'm more motivated now. I'm using a DA85 so I'll let you know how it balances out and total weight.

I just received the tail wheel today so I should be up pretty quick...in the meantime, here is a flight video of the Bearcat with electric power. Looks like a real stable flier.....

I have started the assembly on mine, unfortunately will have to wait 4 to 6 weeks to for 5/8" diameter struts from Robart. So far, the plane has gone together rather well with only one area needed attention. I found some of the formers in the fuse were poorly glued in place, so Hysol was added around all formers. This seems to be a typical problem in most arfs (jets included) that I have assembled in the passed few years. Personally, I am looking forward to completing the assembly, attaching the FPE 116 twin to the nose, and blazing around the field 12 inches off the deck. [8D]

That is good news Dave hope you get it going soon.6 Weeks for robart it was only 2weeks for the centry jet 3/4 struts with the large air cylinders the only mod I had to do was open up the mount rails a little maybe 1/8 wider , the struts are 101/2 inch long center of the axle to top of strut when I order them I had them made 11 1/2 long that was to long the wheels hit the fuess wheel well wal.You will love the way it flys be sure to set your low rate at 50% for the ailrons and 80% high rate.same for elv, rutor does not matter as much but I set it the same way.

David,

Would you mind taking some good pictures of your plane. Maybe some close-ups showing the detail and some interior showing structure, etc.. I know there are more than a few of us that are interested in this plane, but none of us are gonna take a leap of faith like the couple of you that paid your money already. PLEASE be our guinea pig!!!

Regards,

Astrohog
