Default slash w/velineon motor/esc issues...

i have a slash with a traxxas velineon esc and 3500kv brushless motor and im trying to run my Flightmax 4350mAh 3S Lipo with it. but with the lipo fully charged, whenever i go full throttle, the esc goes into lipo cut off mode and reduces my throttle to 50%. ive changed around my gearing and that hasnt worked for me. my current gearing is 24/86. anyone have any idea's? thanks.

Sounds like the voltage of the pack is dropping under load (which is typical of all batteries). What's the voltage of the battery fully charged? What are you using to charge it?

souns like you have a faulty esc. some of the vxl esc'c cut in to early on 3s lipo. turn it off and buy a low volatge alarm on ebay for a few bucks.

not sure. hey supposedly have a good warranty though. a lva can be cheaper than shipping for the esc there though. or not to much more.

What is the "C" rating of the Li-Po you are using? What other gearing setups have you tried? I could be wrong, but isn't 24/86 a bit tall for 3S Li-Po?

24/86 is tall, maybe its going into a safety shut down mode?

according to the flashing light sequence its going into lvc. ive tried 18/86 23/86 26/86 30/86 30/76. the c rating on the battery is 25c continuous. what gearing would you guys suggest?

Well 18/86 would be the easiest on the motor, do you have any smaller pinions? Is there 91t spur for the slash?

there is up to 91t spur from traxxas.

if its going into LVC you know your problem (its flashing red right?). i would just buy a lva. in the meantime i would turn the LVC off and time my runs and sop after 15-20mins to be safe.

yes it is for sure going into LVC with the slow flashing red light. i have been just turning it off and timing my runs just so i can get some play time on this thing. should i still try switching to a smaller pinion again? down from the 24tooth.

Another thing you may try is to get higher "C" rating lipo. If the discharge amp is higher than the battery will cause the voltage to drop and LVC from the ESC. With 4350mah 25C pack the maximum discharge amp is 108.75A. But if you switch to 5000mah 30C battery in theory you can go to 150A discharge amp without issue. Hope this solve your problem.

I'm thinking it's your ESC being faulty or bad batteries. Traxxas is actually extremely good about customer service (and this is coming from someone who absolutely HATES Traxxas stuff!). I'd send it in and let them tinker with it. Before doing that though, see if you can drop the batts in someone else's car and se how they perform. Next, I'd try someone else's batteries in your car. That way you can separate what is good and bad without blaming the incorrect equipment.

If the ESC is just about brand-new, they'll more than likely just send you a new one. Takes about 3 says to get there, 2-3 days to process, and another 3 days to ship back (to most areas anyways), so you'd be out around a week or two if you ultimately do have to send it in. You might also want to consider sending the motor in too. Sometimes the motors can crap out on you and you might be blaming the ESC, but it really does sound like it's the ESC that's bad. Good luck!
