RE: Mad Dog Thread
I used some Klass Kote white primer on the model.
You mix it up and allow it to set about 40 minutes prior to adding reducer.
I used an inexpensive spray gun purchased from Harbor Freight.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
Here are a few more pictures.
A Tettra 4 ounce tank is used as a CG tank.
The tail surfaces are configured similar to a Viper and have exposed control horns. I suspect the net impact on speed is insignificant for a 424 model.
Some JR Sport MN48 servos are used for the tail surface and throttle.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
Some folks have used internal linkages on the Mad Dog. In my opinion it is a little tight for internal linkage.
Kevin's (Matney's Models) other Q500, Dawg Gone It, is wide enough at the tail for internal linkages. There is a construction thread on the NMPRA forum on that model.
The external linkage did not seem to slow the model down any this weekend.
The Mad Dog was one of the faster models at the Goddard race.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
it sure was.... if we can just get that pilot to catch up with the plane we'll all be in trouble.
all kidding aside good job this weekend, especially considering your lack of practice. Did you make it back home already?

Scott,
how are you liking the MN48 servos? So far the ones that I had on the viper were no centering all that well. Are yours doing any better.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
My MN48 center fine. I went to the JR Sport MN48 because they center better than some of the other inexpensive servos.
Others have warned me that they don't hold up very well. I don't have very much time on them to indicate a trend.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
I have seen this airplane fly for the last 2 weekend races (Wichita and Barnstormers), and this plane looks to fly great, and is definitely fast. Nice job Scott!!

RE: Mad Dog Thread
Scott, That's one fast 424 you have got on your hands. I'm still willing to trade engines if you don't think it's fast enough! Just kidding, I wouldn't change a thing on that one.
See you in Lee's Summit in a couple weeks,

RE: Mad Dog Thread
I balance mine at about 2 3/4" back from the leading edge. Mine used a C.G. tank and the model didn't need any lead to balance.
My Dawg Gone It needed a little lead so add some if needed.

RE: Mad Dog Thread
I built mine with the angle on the plans.
As long as the incidence is zero-zero on the wing and stabilizer there shouldn't be an issue.
Good luck on your model!

RE: Mad Dog Thread
Ok thanks, I have it finished and flown already, we fly here slow quicky with standart engine/muffler combination ( 12.300 rpm 80DB(A) at 7 mtr). Speed is about 120 mph. Just enough to have a lot of race fun.
