I have two independent Futaba GY401 Gyros on the Tumble pipe only. ( Pitch and Yaw ) I am confused as to what fitting them to a flying surface would achieve as you have little, to no airflow over any of the surfaces allot of the time that a gyro is useful... but hell what do I know [&o]

Yeah Ali, that was my conclusion. I'll leave mine as is. I opted for the 352 just so I could use one gyro for the two axises to keep it a little more simple, but I guess it's simple no matter what.

Mike,
No problem, I knew what you were talking about or better yet, not talking about.

Thanks everyone!

Mug,
No problem, I hope they can help. I'm surprised you haven't done yours yet. I was sure you were going to beat me to it.

I think 37 lbs. will be enough once a little fuel is burned off, but I don't think I'll ever be able "pull out" without authority like the Universe can. My Booster puts out just about 37# and I'm 28 lbs. dry, so at take off I'm right at 1:1, but you need to be a bit better than 1:1 IMO to really do it right. Once I have more time on the plane I'll be able to give a better assessment.

Good luck with your conversion.

I am around 21 lbs dry weight and can tell you the pull out with the JC 160 SX is not what I would call awesome. it does it but it takes it time.

Perhaps the Merlin 160 would be a little more powerful ?

Mmmm I did think that and I am running a Merlin but I think the two turbines are about the same ( In real life terms ) As I have had both merlin and JC 160 fitted to the same model with little to no difference in performance.

George,

Yeah I was thinking that I would have been done by now too!! LOL!! right now I'm actually spending 60 days in Phoenix trying to decide if I want to transfer out here or find a new job haha My ES does have a different bottom "hatch" design compares to yours so I won't have quite as much room to work in there but I think I can still follow your design pretty close.. One thing that did delay me was that I wasn't sure at first if I really like the way the ES flys... man it lands differently than any other conventional type plane I have ever flown. Speaking of flight characteristics did the servos mounted in the back change the CG at all, and where did you put the gyros??

Michael,

Keep flying the Euro, you'll like it! As far as CG, I did a "quick" check and all was fine; if it shifted, is was not noticed. The ES has a pretty large range, so you should be fine.

I mounted the single dual-axis gyro up front on the bottom tray.

Normally one of these should be on its way to me now.
I have a P160 old slow version, would it be possible to use it or would it be too slow ?

You would be able to use it, but it would help to have faster acceleration in some manuvers.

I have not flown any jet 3D, but without instant throttle responce most of my IC prop airframes would be matchwood by now, I can't think of how I could manage 3D with a turbine with the slow responce of the pre SE and SX turbines, I would not even try.

Ralf Losemann used to fly his Euro (pre J-10 days) on a standard P-160 with vector thrust and he had some nice moves !

Well I'm actually a sports/scale flyer and never really was into 3D. Never hoovered a plane before, got my helicopters for that
Also I only started jet flying about 3 months ago with a second hand [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8986062/anchors_8986062/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#8986062]T22 warrior[/link]. Never really planned to step into the 3D scene with planes (I do mild 3D with choppers). The plan was to fly my T22 for another year orso, and then move to a scale twin turbine tomcat, which is atm my ultimate goal.

However the nice youglady at the comp arf stand on jetpower decided otherwise when she drew my number out of the buckets.

So if the old P160 means I won't be able to hoover at 20cm altitude, then that's perfectly acceptable for me, cause even if the turbine could do it, I couldn't :-) I would however like to do flat spins, cobra, etc. Some tumbling and pirouetting may also be nice.

Did it catch on fire before the crash?? Does low altitude hoover increase the chance of internal fire?

How much does a smoke system weigh? Would they make this model too heavy for hover if it was fitted? Has anybody heard about the Jump Jet Harrier model coming out? Shame about this model being lost.

Some others videos of Jet Power 2009, especially the 3rd (crash of the Eurosport 3D Universe [])

Someone may have an idea of the cause for the engine cutoff ?
