RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
Man I wouldn't know where to begin....
Done a few K's over the years.
However I suppose my non-stop solo trip from Sweden to Holland at about 1200K's in a rattly old Volvo 144 would be up there.
I picked up a hitchhiker somewhere in Germany to keep me awake.
He invited me in for a cup of strong coffee and he had the most amazing apartment.
His girlfriend was a furniture designer and the whole place was filled with the most outrageously awesome stuff I've ever seen.
When I was leaving I asked how to get back to the Autobahn, and he said "I'll come with you and show you"
I drove for about 5 minutes, taking note of all the turns so I'd remember the way, thinking I'd have to take the guy back to his place again and then drive back by myself.
When we got to the last turnoff he just said "Follow this road and it'll take you there" and jumped out of the car.
"I'll run back" he shouted as he disappeared in to the night...
I kept driving til I passed the Dutch border and I just had to pull over and have a snooze on the side of the road before I continued.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
My personal best was jackson, tn to mitchell, south dakota the first day of a 4300 mile trip the wife and I took. That day
was somewhere around 950-1000 miles I guess. Plenty sore and tired, but this traveling was done in the days before
the kids came along :P I don't see pulling it off these days AHAH.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
My longest trips have been to Iowa and back to Georgia, which my wife and I do 2 to 3 times a year. 850 miles one way. 1700 miles round trip. We have a 7 year-old, 2 year-old and a dog with us whenever we go. It normally takes 14 to 15 hours driving straight through at a steady 80mph with several 100mph stretches. The first time I went, I made it in 10 hours by myself. Heehee.
Of the states I normally go through (GA, AL, TN, KY, IL, MO, IA), I try to avoid Illinois the most. [:'(] It has the worst roads and worst drivers.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
the longest I have ever driven straight through would have to be Iowa to englishtown new jersey 1115 miles for the Superford Nationals, we did it several times back in the 90s but that was with a toterhome, twin 200 gallon diesel tanks, on board bathroom and galley so we didn't even pull over to switch drivers half the time, just a quick swap and motor on. My uncle has since sold his but is looking for another stacker style one so he can take two cars without having to lug a trailer.
Some guys might not know what a toterhome is so here is a picture of a nice one that was for sale here a month or two ago, this one just had a standard single 16 foot garage on the back however.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
Go to South France pretty much every year now with my family. Its a 900 mile drive there and we usually go off the motorway and drive through the Alps for the last 150 miles. My dad used to do the 900 miles straight before I got my license and could help him out a bit lol.
Im hoping to do a road trip to Sweden (my home country) next year with my friends. I have not been able to do so yet because you need a crappy car otherwise everyone will key it there [:@]

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
From the SF Bay Area to Detroit and back, about 2300 miles each way. I routinely drive to and from Vegas on a long weekend and that is close to 1200 miles round trip.
When I was 10 my parents drove us to Florida and back over a 3 week period during summer. That's roughly 5900 round trip, but I'd swear it was a million miles to get home [:'(]

I tend to disagree.
Avoid IL highways south of Chicago (going around the south side of Lake Michigan - I-80/94, through northern Indiana near Gary) at all costs. It's a nice choke point.

What's funny is, some folks here swear that IL drivers are the best around. A former roommate swore by it.
I tend to disagree.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
and don't forget about all the toll roads around chicago, its not uncommon to stop 4, 5 or 6 times just to pay tolls depending on how "deep" into the city you wanna get.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
Not sure of the miles traveled but went from Mountain home Idaho through Wyoming to see family, then through Denver to out by Atlanta to see friends. Then to Long Island New york to see a brother all over Ohio to see family and then back to Wyoming. It took 3 1/2 weeks and it was on my motorcycle. Had other trips that had allot of miles but that was the longest! I driven allot of miles over the last 18 years. My job before the slow down was from one end of Wyoming to the other running medical, I averaged 760 to 810 miles per day 5 days a week.

RE: YOUR LONGEST ROAD TRIP?
Did a gigundus road trip, all by myself (perhaps the divorce did it?? lol) from Cincinnati to Banff, Alberta about 10 years ago. Longest one day leg was Peoria, IL to Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, about 1,000 miles.
It was great on the way there - on the way back from this 5,000 mile R/T adventure I was having conversations with the cows on the side of the road.
Will never forget it though - a truly beautiful drive...
