GreatPlanes RV-4 ARF someone for info?
Guys,
this RV-4 ARF 1/4 from GreatPlanes is outstanding.
Is there anyone that has it and fly it,
or seen it fly?
Anyone with pictures to post?
Also,
is the entire fuse sheeted with balsa?

RE: GreatPlanes RV-4 ARF someone for info?
I am on my second GP RV-4 arf and consider it to be a great flying plane, exceptionally well built, and good value. Yes, the entire fuse is sheeted. My one comment is that I have had the recommended 90 FS installed and changed that to a 120FS and much prefer the flying with the 120FS. I am not a 3D flyer but, I do like large climbing loops and the additional power of the 120FS. The first engine was fully enclosed and my second engine is mounted horizontally with the head very slightly exposed and the muffler on the exterior. I like this arrangement.

I just finished assembling my GP RV-4. It went together very well and everthing fit. The covering had no wrinkles. I set the CG by placing a 1500mah battery behind the servos. It required a once of lead in the right aileron bay for latteral balance. I have a new OS 75 AX with Bisson muffler for power. Problem is I don't know when I will be able to maiden it[&o].

Actually the fuselage is not entirely sheeted, there are lightening holes cut into the sides aft of the wing saddle. This is one sweet flying airplane by the way.

Mine was a very sweet flying plane that I was bored with after the first season. I decided that it needed more power than a .91 Two or Four stroke's could muster (tried both). I slipped a YS 1.10S into the cowl. It was a match made in heaven. I had about 40 flights on it with the YS, untill one day at a IMAA flyin I decided to do a low level WOT pass with the YS. The 15-8 APC spinning @ 10,000+ static was too much for the airframe to handle. The Horizontall stab departed the fuse on both side, and completely seperated. This happened about 20' of the deck. Here is some pitures of the after math. After I considered the magnatude of the inflight failure, and the condition of the plane when I got it back on the ground, I consider myelf very lucky.

Did you use blue covering on yours?
Did you use blue covering on yours?
No, but I should have. This one has rustoleum metallic blue rattle can paint with Lustrekote clear over the top but it is still not as fuel resistant as I would like. It gets a good cleaning immediately after every flight to get the exhaust residue off and save the paint!

This is one great flying aircraft.
The OS 91FS is plenty of power for scale and eveyday flying.
an OS110 might be the ticket for more power.
I have flown this model many times.
This model will only give you an easy feeling for flying.
knife edge, four point rolls with ease.
Once you fly you will be hooked.

Motorman i feel sorry for the "accident".
Because almost all the fuse is sheeted with balsa,
and that adds strength,
why your stab broke like that?
I mean,
ok,
a YS 110FS has tons of torque,
but what the h@ck,
it's a 1/4 scale airplane.....it shouldn't broke this way.
You know .... hobbyking carries some 130$ XY 26cc gas engines,
do you think a YS 110FS is more powerful that a 26cc gas?
