RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Ya know, I hate to throw anyone under the bus, but I have given up on mine! I just gutted it to be a beautiful static display in my shop. I loved the way it flew, but I couldn't get it to settle down on landings. There is quite a bit of possitive incidence in the main wing( can be seen if you look at the picture, on their site, with the wing removed from the fuse, look at the relationship of the holes) I talked to Mark about the incidence, and he said this made it fly better, and it does fly awesome, I just can't handle the landings. I dreaded flying just because of that. There are a lot of things that can be done to overcome the issues, but in my experience, the incidence was put in to combat something else, and I don't feel like fighting ghosts. I have approx. 6 Edge 540's, and none of them have issues like this one, so I felt it best to lay this one to rest peacfully, as opposed to the inevitable!

RC Pile It,
I am sorry to hear you were having problems with your 50cc Edge. I talked with Mark about this today to see what he felt was going on and it seems that you might be a little tail heavy.
Did you ever measure the wing incidence?
What problems are you having? We have sold several hundred of the 50cc and 100cc Edge 540’s with great success.
Let me know if you have any questions
Thank You
Rocco / Aeroworks

Hey Rocco, I didn't measure....I don't have a meter, as I trust, and love your planes, I have never needed one! Mark, and I had discussed this a while back, and he mentioned pushing the CG back a little. This made no difference, neither had moving it forward. It's no big deal, as I said, I have moved on, and will continue to buy, and fly Aeroworks planes!

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Hey There! I talked to Rocco this morning, and he said that there is zero incidence between the main, and horz., and a little bit on thrust line, but that was it. He made it clear to me that the canopy line isn't a true line to follow, we needed to set the horz. as a reference(zero) then measure everything from there...The fuse will fly in a tail high attitude, but all of the surfaces are true to each other in the air. We couldn't come up with any solutions to my problem, and with the plane no longer flyable, we will probably never know, but he assured me that they are on their third build cycle(refering to quantity sold), so they have sold a bunch, and no other problems have surfaced, so maybe mine was just a balance issue, or some other isolated occurrence.

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
Hi Rocco, or Mark,
I'm looking to get me one of these new edge's coming this early spring. (wish I could now with the sale, but x-mass) Anyways, I'm thinking of the new 3W55xi, for the motor. But it is on the heavier side, compared to DA. My question is: on the bottom of the plane. The hatches, can I remove all of them, plus the blind nuts. And just recover over the holes. Just trying to save some weight. Will this put the strength of the model in jeopardy in any way.
Also, Is the model made where I can put the rudder servo in the tail?
Thanks,
Don.

Don,
Yes, you can remove the bottom hatch covers and cover over the holes with Ultracote. This will Not affect the strength of the plane. However, we remove the front hatch below the engine box and use the tunnel and bottom hatch cutouts to provide more hot air exit airflow. This allows you Not to have to cut out the bottom of the cowl as much giving the plane a very clean look and provides excellent airflow.
Let me know if you have any further questions
Thanks
Rocco

What about the rudder servo. Is there a place to mount it in the rear?

Just an FYI
I have a DA-50 in mine smoke ready (without pump) and the weight comes in at 18# 5oz - without the smoke you will be below 18#. Haven't flown yet - need spring to come here...

RE: Introducing The New 50cc Edge 540 ARF-QB!
I'm looking for my first 3D aerobatic plane. I would like to go with a 50cc engine. Would the yak or the extra 300 be a good choice? Should I go with the edge. I have been flying for a long time. I just built a super stearman with a 50cc dl and smoke system and I love it. I would like to try somthing new that will help me build up my flying skills. Thanks for any help !!
