Default JR 10x use in the UK

I have a stock US JR 10x radio and am considering a job opportunity in the UK (near Birmingham). I'm assuming that using the US 72MHz gear is a no-no, so is it possible to get a 35MHz module (I think that's the right frequency) for this radio so I can fly legally in the UK?

How about my JR receivers? Can I replace the crystal or do I need new receivers?

Out of morbid curiosity, what do the "pros" do during international competition? Do they swap out gear or are they granted temporary immunity?

Just want to know what I need to do should I find myself in the UK soon...thanks!

Yes 35MHz is the band we use and you can get a 35MHz module for your Tx.

You'll need new receivers. You can't just swap crystals.

Thanks Steve for the feedback. I don't mind getting new receivers, but I'm glad I won't have to give up my TX. On a similar topic, do you know of any good sources of JR equipment in the UK? Thanks again!

Almost all the major retailers carry JR equipment. I don't use JR myself but here are a couple on-line retailers I've used for various stuff :

Sussex Model Centre http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.uk/

Inwoods http://www.inwoodmodels.co.uk

Both have pretty good pricing so that should give you an idea of what you'll need to pay (much more than you're used to I'd guess).

I thought I'd take a look just in case I need to go back (although not to Birmingham, I hope), looks like the R700 receiver is cheaper than over here.....

At least I'd be able to keep my XP8103, I don't know if the UK version is Datasafe compatible....

Hmmm. Not to Birmingham, huh? May I ask why (just curious)?

Well, I've not actually been to Birmingham except to go to the N.E.C. but from what I've heard, it ain't exactly one of the better places to be....

Come to think of it, I'm changing jobs soon and one of my possibilities is a place just outside of Detroit. I think in some ways Birmingham might be comparible...

If you haven't been there or not been there in the past decade, it's changed a lot. Pittsburgh is the closest comparison in America I can think of...a very industrial city that is revitalizing itself into a new image.

Default 10x Frequencies

I have a 10x and three receivers from the UK, but I haven't been able to use it in the US because it's on 35 MHz. I'd love to do an equipment swap with you, if you'd be interested in that. If not, I can sell them to you at a reasonable price.

PM me and we can work out the details.

Flanker
