RE: hmmm...
if can't afford the Trex, get a clone one like what I did, check x heli they have EXI 500 for less than $100 no blade, with metal head I believe, I bought my flasher 500 for $269 with motor ,esc, and blade, and torch tube and still less than $300, I got mine free shipping last year.

RE: hmmm...
I bought the msr bnf so i dont know how it flys with the stock controller. But with the dx7 you can adjust the rates so it feels just perfect.A friend gave me the raptor 30 a while back and I replaced the engine and put the ar6200 in it. I never did get it to fly right.I never had more than one flight before something would break in mid air the tail rotor assembly i have replaced at least three times. the last time i flew it something happened and it dropped from a hundred feet and hit the dirt.its totaled now.Im going to salvage the radio gear in it at least. Is exi a good brand? the prices are good but im leary of a money pit like the raptor.

The Raptor helis are not bad helis. The V1 is an older model heli that may not have been the quality of the current Raptor line. Sometimes when you get a used heli, something is wrong with that particular heli (sometimes, that's the reason it's being sold or given away). If you don't go over it with a fine toothed comb before your first hover with it, you're very likely to end up with broken parts due to wear and tear on the heli that you didn't put on it, resulting in a crash. I fly a Raptor 50 V2 and absolutely love it. I've never had any issues with failing parts on it.
Since you already have the electronics and motor for it from your V1, you could look at getting the V2 (quite a few improvements over the V1) kit for $240 to put your .30 size motor and electronics in. It would be your cheapest bet without investing in a money pit.

If you still decide you want to get away from glow (or at least the Raptor 30) totally, you could look at the Thunder Tiger Mini Titan E325 ARF w/ Motor and ESC for $265, but 3 Hitec HS-65HB servos for $30 each (or HS-65MG servos for $40 each), a Futaba S9257 tail servo for $60, go to look at the ZIPPY and Turnigy 3S 20C LiPos on Hobby King (about $25 or so), and use your Raptor 30's gyro. You'll end up right around $440 plus shipping. (you could also get the bare bones kit version for $130, a Scorpion 2221-8 (or 2221-6 for crazy power) for $60, and the Scorpion 45A V2 ESC for $70. This would put you about $5 cheaper than the ARF, ending up at about $435 plus shipping.) I also fly the E325 and don't have any problems with the helicopter (just some of the cheap electronics I put in it, but that's getting remedied really soon ). It's a very stable helicopter and flies well.

Using the above mentioned electronics, you could also get a T-Rex 450 Sport kit w/ motor and ESC for about $60 more (ends up about $510 plus shipping).

Just giving you a few options to look at given your price range. Happy hunting.
Edit:
If you do go for the V2, check the servos from your V1 to ensure that they're not bad. Don't wanna loose a new heli due to a bad servo. Take care.

RE: hmmm...
The copterx 450 is a good choice. Mine is set up the same as my trex 450. DS 285 servos, 401 gyro. One has the 9254 servo and the other one has the 9650. I'm using the DX6 and the same program for both. They both fly good. The hk 450 from hobbyking is another option.

RE: hmmm...
I built an EXI 450 for a friend. It went together pretty well. He ordered the power package for it at the same time. He used Airtronics 94091 servos for cyclic, G401B Gyrd from dealextream.com, It is a clone of the Futaba GY401. I do not remember the tail servo. It flew very well. I set it up with a lower head speed and EXPO to soften it around center stick. I think the parts are the same as a Trex V1. He was using the stock blades with it.
If I did not have (3) 450 sized helicopters all ready I would get one.
