Hey folks I just wanted to throw this out for everyone.
I have in the past used Hitech TX's and they have a cool feature called a ''CUT'' button which locks the throttle in the LOW position. Well I have recently switched to Spektrum and they do not have that feature[:@]
So I took the time to program the AUX swith to set the throttle channel to LOW, so now a flip of the switch and the motor is effectively disarmed.
Not to difficult to set up.

Good info on the Spektrum workaround to the Hitec throttle function.
A little clarification, though... I believe that the Hitec feature that you're referring to is the "Lock" button, which is just to the left of the "Cut" button (on the Eclipse 7, anyway). Pressing "Lock" allows the throttle level to be locked at idle (or any other position less than half-throttle), which protects against accidentally bumping the throttle to "high" while carrying a plane out to a taxi position after engine startup.
The "Cut" button, just to the right of the "Lock" button, allows the operator to momentarily close the throttle completely in order to shut down an idling engine.
I'm surprised that more manufacturers never incorporated the "Lock" feature. I've witnessed a number of hair-raising incidents of guys lifting and carrying their idling planes around while fumbling with their TX on a neck strap. A simple bump of the throttle stick sends the engine to full-on and the tap-dance begins!...

Rod

RE: Sepulveda Basin
i had some fun with the google earth flight simulator.
you can see the basin (4:03 to 4:11) after the land-and-go at the van nuys airport - hehehe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff4syTMXdzI
any of you horse around with this? you can land on lakes and the ocean - even on the top of half dome (that one takes some practice) by choosing the slow aircraft

Indeed the "Lock" button is correct.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
it is open alright and we had some really fine entertainment this morning too:
the guy who sells hot dogs sloshed his white van across the gas through the electric area and drops off his hot dog trailer at his usual sopt. then upon his departure, he starts sinking into the grass and after about 10 feet of tire spinning, finds himself digging into a hole. stuck.
then he gets out and heads south to get some 2x4's to put in front of his tires. but that doesn't work either.
then a bunch of electic guys volunteer to get behind the rear bumper and try to push it through. electric billy gets out his camera and starts shooting video... but the electric guys didn't get sprayed with mud and were not successful either - too bad., that would have been a good video.
and so now, the hot dog guy is getting rilly pissed. another guy volunteers to take his pickup out there and the hot dog guy gets a chain. they hook it up and the pickup spins its rear tires. he calls it quits before he sinks in too.
while the hot dog guy walks on by, another fella makes a comment that he ought to put some of his hot dogs under his tires to get more traction and that rilly pisses him of to the point where he says a few choice words.
next thing, electric billy drives out there with his 4x4 and offers to pull him out from behind, where the hot dog guy has a ball link on his rear bumper. maybe these guys don't like each other but the hot dog guy does not want billy's help. and so billy gets into his truck and torches the gas pedal, spraying mud all over the white hot dog van. i thought there was going to be a fight and all of the people watching on the sidelines including me are having belly laughs. funny how some people, when offered help, will refuse because their egos are so huge.
finally, another guy takes his 4x4 pickup out there and pulls him out from the front side. end of show.
but the hot dog guy is going to have to drive through the grass 2 more times this afternoon to get his hot dog trailer out of there - and so now, the grassy area in front of the electric area is all trenched up - woo hoo!!!...way to go!!!!!!
i wish i had my camera, i would have a new youtube video of billy spraying the hot dog van with mud - a classic.

Paul,
Thanks for the good laugh, but what is the hotdog guy doing driving through the electric area. Isn't that hotdog stand supposed to be on the other side of the fence?
Still laughing in Fresno

RE: Sepulveda Basin
It was a shame that Benny (the hot dog guy) got stuck, I'm sure it was not his intention, nor was it to damage the grass out there. Yeah I would have thought twice before doing that but that's me.
As for the riff between him and Bill, Who knows! I get along with both of them and don't take sides.
Just gald it didn;t turn into anything else.
I will say Rare Bears report was very accurate!
Take care all,
Mike R

Benny Hill Indeed!!!! I think there's lots of events at the basin that need that music, but this sure qualifies. It's like witnessing a live IQ test from what Rare Bear said.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
Hello. I was a witness also. It is unfortunate that Bennie made the decision to drive across the wet grass. I applaud the people including Billy who tried to help him. Rare-Bear and Phat Reliant's reports are accurate. Billy wanted to help pull Bennie out because Bennies van was blocking the flight area. I do not understand why Bennie did not want to be pulled out with Billy's help. Whatever the case, seeking vengence is simply not an appropriate path to take here. It's simply time to move on and learn from the experience. It was Bennies decision to drive out there in the first place and he is ultimately responsible for paying to wash his van. It needed a bath after Bennie spun his tires the first time and so Billy's tire spray would not have prevented the need to get it washed. I hope Bennie brings out a shovel this weekend and fills up the trenches left by all who drove out there and I sincerely hope he learned a good lesson here and doesn't drive out there again when it's wet. Peace to all.
