I picked my 60 Twist up off of craigslist with a Saito .91 this past spring. After a good bit of flying this season, I LOVE this plane. It's a riot to throw around. If I'm making lazy NASCAR laps in the sky, I can go 20 minutes on a half tank (15% Cool Power). I'm going to read through this thread to glean any extra hop-ups I should do to it.

I have a 60 with a 91 surpass in it and I cant find a prop that it really likes. I just put a 14x4 APC on it today. After the snow goes away I will fly it and see!

Does your 91 seem to have enough power? Mine seems a little sluggish, or maybe it the prop size!

I flow my 60 size Twist on skies today. The cold weather (24 degF) forced me to richen the O.S. 91FX 1/2 a turn on the main needle and 1/4 of a turn on the low range. Super power with a 15x6 Prop. Fun flyer in the cold dense air.

I just installed an RCGF 20cc Rear Cab gas engine in mine. I haven't flown it yet. Its too cold. I would be interested in knowing how well the 15cc works out. I was debating between the 15cc and 20cc and finally decided on the 20. Its a tight fit, but the plane balances out well and looks good.

Cool I was looking on here for the firewall demensions to see if the 15cc would fit before I order the plane (I got the little motor in today I was going to get the 20 for the same price but I was trying to save some weight) but I see you have the 20cc mounted. I will order the plane now if the 20 fits the 15 should too can you post some pictures or mail them to me direct. I too will be waiting on the maiden report. You said it ballanced well where did you have to put the batterieS. Send me some pics direct email if you want. [email protected]

ennyka,

Here are some pictures of the RCGF 20cc on my Twist 60. I cut some off the cheeks, but it was not really necessary, it was just easier to work on it that way. I only use 1 battery. It is a 2000mah 6volt sony enelope battery pack. I invented my own battery eliminator in place of the normal battery used for the ignition. This helped a lot as far as weight is concerned. The one battery is located just behind the back of the canopy. I made a hatch in the bottom of the fuse just behind the wing to make it easier to get to the battery. It balanced out without adding any weight. I just weighed the entire plane, and it weighs 8.0 pounds, but my digital scale is only accurate to the 1/2 of a pound. I used 3 1/2 inch wheels and I added extensions to the landing gear because I was not happy with the ground clearance with my 16 x 8 APC prop (I fly off a rough grass field). I also split the alerions in the middle and added 2 extra servos and programed the crow feature on my radio, so there is some extra weight with the 2 extra servos also. I hope to maiden it next week some time if the field is dry enough and the weather permits. I'll keep you posted.

So you have the carb actually on the inside of the firewall? I wan't thinking about that but that would save plenty nose weight by having the motor in closer. Thanks for the pics. I wish I would have bought the 20 now, but anyway I picked the twist 60 after I picked the motor I just wanted a test bed for the smallest gasser. I may have to put it in a 40 sized plane later.

I was originally thinking of going with the 15cc engine but I looked at the pe reivers prop thrust calculator and figured I would get 12 to 13 lbs thrust out of the 20cc engine which is what I wanted for 3d flight (I'm getting 8100 rpms). I'm not a 3d expert but I'm slowly learning and at 7.5 to 8 lbs AUW (with the 15cc engine), I didn't think the 15cc would work very well at all.

I just bought a Twist 60 and plan on installing my saito 125 on it.... Looks like a good fit. I plan on placing washers behind motor mount as mentioned earlier, and using a APC 16x6 prop. Any other recomendations on this set up?

I have the same set up. I placed my 6v rx battery behind the wing. Just cut out the covering in the fuse and built a little tray that I zip tied the battery to and secured it with a couple screws.

Had this ARF sitting around for about 3 years , well I took it out of the box a couple days ago and almost ready to go. I used 9451 servos on all surfaces with 4-40 rods and HD ball links. I plan on setting the CG at around 5.25 to start, I waited to hard mount the YS110 so I can move it for/aft to help set the CG .

To bad I missed out on the 150 size I sure would have liked to give it a go.

Good luck Autoguns! You picked a good plane to return back to flying. I too recently returned to the hobby and chose a Twist to re-educate my thumbs to flying again and am pleased with my decision. I look forward to seeing the pics and a successful maiden report.

Good luck and happy flying!!!

Thanks,
The first few flights went well, once in the air and with just a couple slight trim adjustments it flew flat and level with no input. however the CG will need to be moved aft a bit, at 5.25 its just to forward. I'll try it at 5.5 next time out.

The 110 pulled the plane very well , in fact it was almost to much, it would hang on the prop at around 1/3 throttle , one click up or down and the plane would follow. its very touchy. I'm turning a apc 16x4w now and was thinking of trying other props to see if I can find one that isnt so sensitive to input. I have some 16x4 wood props on order maybe they will do the trick.
The planes is set up with
YS 110
Futaba S9451 servos
4-40 rods soldered
Du Bro HD ball links 'bolted"
DuBro HD Servo arms
3" soft foam wheels (? make, I hade these from years ago )
Sullivan Tail wheel
TruTurn 2" wide chord alum spinner
Voltwatch
Hydramax NIMH 2000Mah

Sorry I didnt get any "action photos" but heres a couple static pics of the plane and field

Not sure why the pics loaded the way they did. I guess three are still some website issues. I deleted them once and tried again, still loaded as you see them. Some large, some small, but all pics were resized to same small pixel size before posting

Has anyone tried moving the horizontal stabilizer/elevator rearward to decrease the pitch sensitivity of this model?

I had the Tribute 36 and the horizontal stabilizer/elevator was positioned the same way and I thought it was rather short coupled.
