I got mine last week also and the detail is awesome. I can't wait to get her in the air. After looking at the directions and thinking it over I decided not to use the flap blocks and just go straight to the wing and the flap. I had a little trouble at first figuring out the inter-linkage, but now it works great and is very solid. I get a lot of deflection.

Be careful using any tape, including the blue masking tape on the plane. The paint will come away with the tape unless they have done a better job of painting these planes than my run.

Anyone got a used, damaged, in bad shape, lost interest, 74" Corsair?

I could use it.

I have 3 lbs of lead attached to the engine mount. I build a form, melted and pored lead to the shape that I wanted. Someone also told me that using shotgun shot and epoxy you can make a weight and shape it to what you need. I have not tried that.

Why would anyone need a larger tank ? With a 26cc gasser the stock tank should run 20 minutes !
On another question; I always build a shelf over the engine that extends to the front of the cowl. This accommodates any batteries, ignition module, or tail lightener you may need.

Because some of us are running the OS 200 and the stock tank puts a limit on flying time. I went to a 24 oz tank.

ORIGINAL: aghost

Drifter: Steps 14, 15, and 16: 12 ply pieces on the wing, 12 ply pieces on the flaps, 12 hinges. Anyway, that's how I interpreted their drawings. I could be wrong. I did not see anyone else comment about this method of adding some ply support for the hinges. My logic is that since there is no way to put the ply inside the flaps, the plys go on the outside of the flaps. Then to keep the two sides of the hinges level per note in Step 14, the ply goes on the outside of the wing. Once you get to that point, the drawings kind of look like the ply goes on the outside. It won't be noticeable once the hinges are installed.

Brian
Thanks for the reply. And also the pic of step 15 from the latest manual.

I have an earlier model, and step 15 is different from the current manual. No ply pieces shown . Perhaps some had problems attaching the hinges, and they changed the process.

My hinges were screwed directly onto the wing and flap. So far the attachment is solid. Fingers crossed.

regards

If anyone is not using the flap hinges show above and would like to part with theirs I have someone here who would like to use them on another plane that he has.

I am starting to work on my Corsair. Haven’t decided on the engine yet. I thought about the Aerovate 26cc but my experience with this particular engine tells me it might not be enough power for this plane. I am leaning toward a DLE 30cc (http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/DL30ENGINE.html). Has anyone installed this engine in the Corsair?

I think there some in this thread that have them. The DLE 30 will be a good engine for this plane. It give s you a little bit more "war emergency power" in case of a sticky situation.
I am waiting for the next batch of Corsairs to come in to get one. I have a very lonely RCIgn G38 sitting on the shelf.

GR168, I have an F4u under construction right now and i have installed the Aerovate 26. Can you tell me more on this engine ? I could only go by the add (7100 rpm On a 18x8).
Is this a gross exaggeration. I know that Brison 2.4 would give unlimited vertical !

I have this plane new in the box getting ready to build. I am planning on using a brand new Saito 1.50. Anyone have any opinions. I was told it should be plenty, but I'd like anyone else that has an opinion to let me know. Thanks.

Doc,

I had Aerovate 26cc engine installed on a WM P-47 with a 71 inch wingspan and weights about 12.5 lbs (http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_75..._5/key_/tm.htm) post #116. It pulls it nice and scale, but can not do big loops. A little more power would be ideal. I was using a 16x8 at 8,300 rpm.

Regarding the Corsair, judging from everyone’s comments here, it weights about 19 lbs with a 74 inch wingspan. The 26cc will pull it along but I think it will be sluggish. I like my war bird to be a little on the fast side so that I could perform big loops and little bit of emergency power to get me out of trouble in case I needed it.

What flight time do you get with the 24 oz. tank and the OS 200.

The longest I have run it so far has been about 12 minutes and there is about 1/3 tank left. This is with the engine set pretty rich since it is still running in.

Does anyone have any more opinions on the Saito 150 for the power plant?

I'm starting to think I need to go with the 180.

Go with a 180 ! I had a 150 on an 15 lb. Dynaflite PT-19 and it flew fine, but with a heaver Warbird you will need more power.
I fly at 4700 feet and that also makes a big difference.

Shane , I agree with the 180 , but ....... before you do if you replace the nice ESM /KMP wheels with Dubro scale light weight wheels you can shave some weight .
I will also be moveing all my componants forward , even in the wing , I know its ok to add thee pounds , I just dont want to do so

Here are some pics of my flaps. And also just wondering what you guys think. I am looking at an Evolution 40GT because of weight and being that they don't make a 35GT anymore. But I am really leaning towards a Saito gas 180 or 220. Four stroke sound!![8D] What are some opinions of these engines?? If it used the 40 i would turn a 3 blade but the Saito's would be awesome because of the sound. Just worried about power and Vibration with those two!
