Ah but you're missing so much of the night life at Nall, and the 40%er alarm clocks in the mornings .

But you forget... I'M OLD!

You kids can keep your night life. After spending all day on the flightline, I need to go rest my weary bones!

Well, I'm no Spring Chicken anymore myself (just had a birthday on the 5th), but the way I see it, 1 week at Joe Nall roughing it, and 51 weeks of recovering before I do it all again next year!

That's the problem... It takes 51 weeks to recover

Hell, I'm still not fully recovered from Toledo!

I'll be attending with my father. Drive down on the 13th. Attend the 14th and 15th. Drive home on the 16th. Really looking forward to it. Really considered camping but decided to stay in Simpsonville at the Holiday Inn Express. This will be out first year so maybe next year bring the camper, etc.

Planning on bringing two planes as of today.

Ain't it amazing how soft we're becoming. Some of you guys sound like a bunch of wusses !!. May 12th I'll be 70 years old. I started in this hobby when control line was all there was. Early 50's !!. Would stop a Baby Bee with my hand when it ran backwards. Could tell when it had swallowed a grass seed with one crank of the prop. Time to clear the reed. Last year I attended SEFF. Trying something new this year. Missing the odor of burning castor & methane I recon. I love electric flight.....but there's still nothing quite like the nitro. All that smoke....the noise.....yeah !!
Like TJ says....and I do agree entirely.....if you really want to feel the pulse of the event....then you camp. Nobody but overnight backyard campers sleep on the ground in the dirt. With good quality camp gear....comfort is readily available. My camping motto: Keep your belly full and your body clean and all else is fun.

I knew I liked you! I'm trying to talk one of our Senior Club Members into at least coming for a few days. He's 90 years young (he also had a birthday earlier this month) and robbing the cradle with a 72 year young girlfriend!

If he's young-at-heart enough to mess around.....then he needs to get out and experience one of these big fly-ins. You tell him I said so.....OK....He could bring her with him.....that way he'll find out what kind of metal she's really made of.....

Sorry, but I have not "turned into" a wuss - I was BORN a wuss! (The Great American Indoorsman!)

My idea of "roughing it" is staying in a Motel 6

Keep in mind, while YOU are enjoying the festivities, I am working. At the end of the day, I want to get away for a while. And even then, I'm still busy downloading and editing pictures and video. The LEAST I can do is do it in the comfort of a hotel - with a real chair and desk - Oh yea, and TV and AC

If you're taking vacation, take your time and drive. See the country along the way. Flying these days is no fun and very expensive [>:]. The night temperatures are cool/comfortable, sometimes perhaps chilly depending on what part of the country you're coming from. Northerners will find it just right, Southerners may find it cool. You could stay off-site, but my feeling is that you'll miss out on a lot of the social gatherings that just kind of happen.

Flash...Keep your HT with you. I am coming in midday Monday and will have the rig in the truck on 52 simplex. Call AG4RZ

I will set up at the 3D line, and camp nearby. I will be bringing some QRP gear to play with...817 and wire antennas, if you get the urge to play HF. Most likely SSB and PSK-31/63...Trailer will be easy to spot...look for the antenna pole disguised with a "JR" flag on top!!

I love the blues, so hold on to a harp for me!! I might even throw a guitar in the trailer!!!!

Tim

Thanks TJ....
I will make a strong effort to look you up when I get there. If you can be found any where near that giant ''V'' I will no doubt find you. For any others that read this....I will CQ the area. My call is WB4CDY. I will be on 146.52....simplex.
OK.....I'll take your advice and quit worrying about it. We (my wife & I) pack everything including the kitchen sink. I'll bring 36 harmonicas in case anybody wants to play some Blues music......I thought it wouldn't hurt to bring my mCX heli.....I could fly it inside the tent and it wouldn't bother anybody. That way I could scratch my flying itch !!!
My plan is to get within 30 - 50 miles of the site on Friday and get a motel room and drive in Saturday morning all rested. We will be coming from the Lexington, Ky. area.
Does all this make a little sense...???
Looking forward to meeting you.....and BTW.....your photography up on the Nall site is fantastic.....

Just a few more days now and many of us will be on the way to Joe Nall 2010!

As I was departing Joe Nall 2009, I had the opportunity to talk with Pat Hartness about a way that we all can help make this year more pleasant for Mr. Pat and the entire Joe Nall staff. He gave the thumbs up, and said go for it! Here is the idea in brief:

Team Clean - for clean bathrooms around the clock - 24/7

The goal of Team Clean is assist Pat Hartness and his crew during the actual days of the event. Team Clean would be on duty and volunteering our services from the opening ceremonies on Monday to the close of the event on Saturday.

2 Teams of 12 each total of 24:

o 12 for Team Clean North
o 12 for Team Clean South

2 hours each day: Each team member would monitor, and be directly responsible 2 hours a day, and would provide oversight and assistance in and around the bathroom areas.

GOALS

Bathrooms (North and South):
o Clear floor of paper, debris and litter
o Hose down/Spray shower and bathroom floors and urinal areas
o Re-Stock paper towels and toilet paper
o Keep toilets and stall areas clean
o Clean/Wipe mirror and sink areas
o Empty trash cans

General Help for Grounds:

o Loose trash and papers
o cigarette butts

(Not the portable toilets, just the bathrooms and showers)

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED!

I have purchased 30 Green Official Soccer Referee shirts, one per volunteer! I have them in these sizes 20 in XL, 7 in L, and 3 in M. This will make us stand out when on duty, and help us build the team spirit!

When you volunteer, please email me the desired shirt size, days you will be available to help and location of service, ie, North (Main) or South (3D Line). I will need your cell phone number, email, time frame each day you would like to volunteer, and any ideas that you would like to offer.

This will be a great way to get to know more people, make new friends, and help to keep a big smile on Pat Hartness' face for the entire event!

I am publishing my cell phone number and email! and I will do my best to help coordinate this effort. It will be an honor to work with all of you that volunteer. I look forward to seeing you at the Nall!

My cell phone number is: 903-278-5384

Please call or email me today: [email protected]

Thanks,

Lonny D. Weitzel,
AKA, Big Red Cub!
