Sweep the wings back but it became tail heavy and we didn't want to scratch the paint. Will take some more pictures tomorrow. Butch

Gotcha,
so in flight, will the CG move back far enough that with the wings swept it remains balanced, or have you got a moveable weight in the airplane for when the wings go back (sorry if that was mentioned before, I've followed this thread, but it's so much to take in, I don't remember everything that's been discussed)
Awesome project, definitely one that I want to try to get down to for the maiden!

Right now there is no equipment inside, no radio, engines, bombs, servos or anything, just the shell they are trying to get to Dyess with for display. Any plane in this condition wil be off balance until the inards are installed. I am going to guess that Bob and Butch will put some weight up front so they can swing the wings while on display. Give the boys some time to finish the plane before speculating what is and what is not going to happen. They do have a plan and right now it is to display their B-1 at Dyess. They still have a bunch of work to do before then such as painting the wings and other details (cockpit, markings and stuff) and attaching the engine pods. The wings you see are just mock ups with a foam spar, the actual wings will have the moulded spar and probably weigh just a bit more.

Looks like the flat clearcoat that Bob is using, if applied too heavy, gets too glossy. Same with the PPG 2060.
But this current finish should offer a nice base for weathering, etc.
Looking good guys. Good luck with the public display at Dyess!

I wasn't speculating anything at all, I am fully aware of the state that the airplane is in. I was simply asking a question in regards to the airplane and it's aerodynamics. Does the CG move back with the wings so that no change in weight is necessary, or will there be a shifting weight in the airplane. I don't for one second think that they haven't figured all of this out. I was just curious. When the wings sweep back the MAC is obviously different, I was just wondering how it affects the actual balance of the airplane from straight out to swept back. It's a lot of weight that will be moving backwards, but I also understand that as the wing sweeps, it acts more like a delta and the balance point will change then too.

Here is a link about the true story of the Star of Abilene. The first B1 that arrived at Dyess was actually the first Test Bed aircraft. The first production B1 that was to be the first to arrive at Dyess had engine problems and never made it until a few weeks later.

Butch and Bob that B-1 is awesome, the craftsmanship is second to none. If I did a little better planning on my part I could have flown into Abilene from AZ to see the Bomber and meet the legends behind this machine and of course see the Thunderbirds

Hi Butch. could you tell me the exact amount of spending to build this airplane? ...if possible
other question, I have heard "that this airplane after a few flights and presentation to the public will be donated to # 111 bomber squadron and true or is a false news?
