Welcome onto the Angel appreciation page.

On my electric Angel I use 4300Mah Flight Power batteries and its only just enough for a full clubmans schedule, but I am using an AXI 4130/16 pulling a 16 x 10.

I use some flightmax 4S in my Habu and they seem to be very good so far and very reasonably priced compared to the FP's.

Sorry I could not be more help, but someone will come along and give you some feed back nearer to your friends set up I am sure.

Watching this thread for a while... I received my Angel late last year. I installed a Turnigy 55-60 400Kv motor and a CC85HV esc but I had issues!!!

I battled with motor timing. Regular knocks and bangs with the odd screech from the motor (even without a prop). I changed timings but I never got it to go properly.
I'm only a sportsman-level pilot but you still need a reliable plane. Having the motor go bang/screech needing a full throttle down during an outsideside loop isn't a good look!!! I flew 4 practice flights after the build before my first comp... which I won. The Angel 50 makes you look good

I have sorted the motor finally. I replaced it this week with a Turnigy SK 42-60 500Kv with 14x7 prop. 66A peak, thats 1375W Ample power for the odd KE loop. I carried two "keychain" cameras during the test flight so I'll post the aerial footage once edited.

Love the plane... and this thread has been great too!!!

I'm running Flightmax 6S5000's. Running cool with up to 66A pulled out. Well balanced cells. I have heard somewhere on this (or other) forums that the plane doesn't fly any better with a lighter pack. Some times a little weight helps the momentum.

I have only ever used 5S in this plane, and everywhere from Flitemax 3000mAh to Zippy 3700 & 4000, and Hyperion 4350mAh.

It lands much nicer with the 3000 pack and is a little more "fun" to fly . . but the heavier packs are better for pattern. It penetrates so much better and carries momentum over the top of manouevres.

I will try the 5000's out of the 2M planes soon . . but I expect it will be difficult to do a nice graceful 'greaser' landing with even heavier packs. I imagine 5000mAh 6S would land fairly 'hot' on calmer days ???

Not too hot. I have enabled 50% brake on the esc so speed decreases nicely when you throttle down.

Hi all,
Finally getting around to assembling my AngelS that I received last November (went to Florida for the winter). I searched this thread and found no mention of a question i have. The tab on my aileron horns are longer than the thickness of the ailerons. Should they stick through the top side? Or should they be sanded down to fit? They are about 3/16" to long.

oops! I inserted it backwards in the picture, but they are still too long.

On mine, I trimmed the tab so that it would fit within the aileron. I also used epoxy rather can CA to attach the horns. I just wanted to make sure that they were firmly attached.

Thanks Teo, that was my guess too. It was just odd to me that they were that much longer.

I'm with Teo. Trim and use epoxy.
I also reviewed the gluing around the engine mount interlocking joins and added somw thick cyno in a few places. Well worth check imo.

I'm a sportsman pilot with 12 flights on my Angel 50e now. I had really bad timing problems with my Turnigy 50-65 400Kv motor (3 esc's, variable timing, tried everything) and have just re-engined it with the Turnigy SK 42-60 500Kv motor.

Here is a video (gusty wind) of the test flight with on-board "keychain" cameras.
Not the best flying (first non-foamy stick time in 6 months) but you get the idea. I have a 14x7 prop on it but I'm going to try the APC 14x8. I'm already hitting 66A peak (1375W) so I don't really need more power. I just need to use it better.

Finished my Angel S last night and flew the maiden flight today, and all i can say is WOW!...... WOW!....... WOW! and for good measure WOW!!!! I LOVE this plane! I just started sequence/pattern type flying last summer, and this plane really made be look good. It made me feel pretty good too!
My first pattern plane is an AeroWorks StingRay with 39" wingspan (photo below). I thought it tracked great but after flying the Angel S, all i can say is, it's a whole new ball game. And one I'm glad I'm playing in.

Yep, it's in a different league to "entry level" or "sport" pattern planes..............
It's a true (though smaller ) competition-capable Pattern plane that will do the "book" and more besides. Just a bit more difficult to fly accurately in stronger or gusty winds as it's quite light/ lower wing loading, compared to an 11lb, 2m model. That said, it's VERY good all round & you won't regret getting it!

just trying to wrap up my angel build. There isn't a whole lot of cowl overlap to screw into the fuse. Where are you guys drilling into the fuse or are you making cowl mounts.

I ended up adding mounting blocks for the cowl screws just to be safe.

If you dont mind me asking - what material did you make the blocks out of? I was thing about 4 pieces of basswood placed in front of the former. either secure it with ca or probably better epoxy.

My screws are about 1/4 inch in from back edge of cowl. But what really matters is that you have the proper overlap of the canopy. My cowl overlaps the canopy 1/2". A lot depends on the motor you are using. I have the Extreme Flight 4016T-500 mounted with 1/2 spacers which gave me the proper cowl overlap.

i'm using a hacker a50 s series. and it's almost too perfect a fit. If i screw into the fuse as is - they will most likely thread into the former to get about an 1/8th to a 1/4 from back of cowl. maybe i'm just over thinking it. Usually i have to shim the motors - which gives a bit more option

Got to the field today to finally maiden my angel. Must have had an angel on my shoulder - because right before I got her off the ground - the prop stopped abrubtly (bang) and smoke started coming from my esc. Coulda been worse, Now i;m trying to figure the problem... bad esc? bad motor? bad combo? Everything was connected proper and seemed to be fine when I ran the meter against it befor flight. The esc is totally dead - but the motor seems fine ( but not sure if to trust it)
here is my setup:
motor - hacker a50s-14
Prop - 16x10 apc
battery - tp 5s 5000 30c
esc - castle ice lite 75

4 of the fets by the black wire just popped.

Any input is appreciated.

Got to maiden the angel finally. All I can say is wow! Sorted out the power issues i had prior. Went with the cc ice lite 100/cc bec pro/5s 5000 lipo/hacker a50-12s/15x10 prop. very happy.

Hello all,

Took the Angel to its 1st pattern contest (my second) and the plane served me very well. I am just getting started, so I am currently flying Sportsman. The weather at the contest was just about perfect with sun on both days and light winds.

My set-up is somewhat modest in terms of power: AXI 4130/16, APC-E 16x12 prop, 50A Castle ICE controller and a 5S battery. With this, I have about 900 watts to fly on which is a little less than the 1000 watts I was expecting (which is what I get if using a 70 A Jeti Opto Plus controller). All up weight is about 6 lbs, give or take an ounce of two. On calm days, this is more than enough to fly the sequence well; however, on windy days, it could use a little more speed. All in all, I am very pleased with the plane. The only concern I have is with how lightly the plane is built: I am not rough on my planes but I wonder how long it will last.

At any rate, if you are thinking about getting started in pattern this is a great starter plane. I have enclosed a photo of Corine and the plane taken just before the start of the contest.

After two years without the plane, I decided to buy my Angel back for the person that I sold it to. I forgot how good this plane flies.

Hi,

A quick glance was all that was needed to confirm that the horizontal sabiliser was out of line on my Angel. So I have given it a bit of sanding and it is level now. A really good ARF otherwise.

What method do you use for lining up and attaching the Stab? I want to be as accurate as I can with this one as I want to use it for pattern flying.

what settings on the ESC are you guys running. PWM ? motor timing?
