Difference between 72 PCM AND 72 PCM1024
Really needing help I am an amputee and use the Futaba FP-8SSAP single stick transmitter on 72mhz and is PCM. I am having heaps of issues around PCM receivers that work and don't work. When I use a Futaba 8 channel PCM 1024 it will not work. I change the crystal to the Futaba 72 PCM it works fine. It appears to me that there is a difference from 72mhz PCM and 72mhz PCM 1024. No matter what crystal Dual or Single I am unable to get the receiver with PCM 1024 to work with my transmitter yet it works fine with PCM receivers. Would appreciate some help

Thats a 512 transmitter and only works with the original release PCM recievers. If it's labeled 1024 it won't work.
The stick throw is broken down into steps, in the case of the original PCM that was 512 steps. Newer systems added a bit to the encoding scheme and increased the stick resolution to 1024 steps (they have 2048 now)
Anways, it's doing as it is designed to do.

The transmitter you have, FP-T8SSA-P, is a first generation Futaba PCM system with a resolution of 512 bits. The 1024 PCM receiver is second generation and has 1024 bit resolution and is not compatible with your transmitter. The PCM receiver you need is FP-R128DP. The system has been out of production for at least 15 years and your only chance of finding a receiver is in the RCU Classifieds or E-Bay.
I have the system and it is a very good system. It was originally intended for competition pattern flyers. Good luck in finding a receiver.
