Default RE: [Awaiting Approval]

With the various models and scale sizes of Waco's being offered, and built (looks like a renewed interest of these planes) I can't help but wonder why more reproduction parts are not being offered. I know that most of those who offer cowls and wheel pants are basically being run from their garages, but why are so many missing the boat? Is it because they don't have the parts to use to make molds? I remember when Jay (damifino) and I worked to provide Stan's with a correct cowl. Maybe someone needs to contact these parts makers, and inquire as to whether they need the part with which to be able to offer the finished piece.

Bill,

With all of the Waco's being made do you know if there is one that would work well with a Moki 150? I have a Moki 150 and I had hoped to put it in a Waco YMF but looks like the 1/3 scale takes a 215 or 250 and others smallerWaco's take engines smaller than the 150.

In the interim I have a Pitts 12C (the Beast) on order from Hangar 9, designed for the DA100 and I plan to put the Moki 150 in her. But I would ultimately like to find her a home in a Waco YMF or Cessna 195. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Anthony,

Check out Ziroli Plans, http://www.ziroliplans.com/zirolipla..._frameset.html he has a kit for a Continental Engine for their 87" PT-17 using 1/4 Scale William Bros J-5 Cylinders and an ABS Crankcase fo about $90. It is in the Cataloge under Scale Items. It does not give a diameter and may be too small for your purpose, but the assembly instructions are on the page and may give you some help.

Ziroli also has some vacuum formed engines and the FTE resin cast engines, all appear to be 9 cylinder.

I like the Idea of using a soda bottle to form a crankcase. I would probably use it as a mold to lay up a fiberglass crankcase and add details.

I use the high density foam that sign companies use for letters etc. I have a whole box of scraps that they gave to me and it is great for making scale details. It carves and sands nicer than balsa and you can seal it with a couple of coats of epoxy resin. I built up a crankcase for my 1/5 KI 84 in a couple of hours.[img][/img]

Sunday was a major success! On the maiden it flew hands off at half throttle after 2 clicks of left aileron. And what a great flying plane it is. Landings were almost trainer like, Unbelivable! After the maiden put on 4 more flight that day.
Then I got home and seen that there was a 1/5 scale kit on ebay, You guessed it, Now I have the fever and a little less money in the bank.

I'm hopeful that the 27% will accept the 150. I'm doing it around the Zenoah GT80 twin. I don't know the overall width of the 150.

So this means that there are atleast 172 Wacos either built or under construction, now all we have to do is get them together at a Waco fly-in

I used your windscreen for inspiration and made one for my 33% AMR from styrene. Not quite as nice as your but it will work. I still need to add the rivets and mounting holes. I also made the throttle quadrant from styrene. My 1st time using the stuff and it works pretty good.

All,

Where to place that Waco meeting. I am just in the course of designing a box to ship my Waco safely to somewhere over seas. I have no idea about US customs regulations. It might be not so easy to get a complete Waco fully equipped with engine and radio (2,4GHz) to the US. What about a permission to fly. We have insurance here in Germany which should be valid all over the world but do you need any licence to be allowed to fly in the US a none US citysen?

We do it a couple of times a year (at least). At The Monster event, and again at Top Gun, we draw competitors from all over the world. I'll ask Frank Tiano about how he does it.

WacoNut, the screen looks marvelous, when the rivets and screws are added and it is painted, you could not tell the difference from the one I built using alloy. I must be a nut when it comes to alloy even looking at making mine like the later models and covering the front half of the fus with the stuff will post a photo of it to see what you all think when I get a bit more done. As to where to hold a fly-in why dont you all come and visit me in Aus

Tmac,
Thanks!! The rivets turned out great. I am working hard to get this plane ready for paint. My goal is to have it flying in July and take it to Bomber Field in Texas this September. I am modeling an original Waco built in 1935 NC14232.
Here is a couple pics of the windshield frame sitting on the fuse. Will lay nice and flat once I put the mounting screws in.
Later!!

Default RE: WACO YMF

Hi guys, I wanted to let you guys know where I'm at with my 1/5 Waco float installation. I have the floats installed, it wasn't easy since I've never built a Waco before, much less install floats on one. I have to tell you, it's been fun and I'm looking to find another Waco to build when this one is done. I'm using the GPs 60 size floats, I've made some changes like round the top, install one servo in the right float for the rudders. I plan on using an OS 160 twin for power I don't have yet, is this going to be enough power to get her off the water? Here are some photos, the cowling isn't going to be used from reading your threads, I now know it's incorrect for a YMF. The tail wheel is removable for installing the ventral fin. I plan on adding fairing to the landing gear struts.

I would like to hear from you guys, ideas as to what I'm doing, even if it's to say it will never work or fly? I've been flying off water for years and know most of what I need to do for setting up and adjusting CGs, float step and wing to float incidents. I may maiden her on land just to make sure she'll fly and make adjustments. I don't normally do that but it's a Waco and I want it to live!
