XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
Just received my XERUN 4168SL 2250kv motor and 80A esc for my HB Ve8.
After reading many good comments on this system I decided to go this route rather than spend another $100 on a Castle or Tekin system. The XERUN combo is very nicely packaged and includes a program box, mounting screws, heat shrink tubing, precut servo tape for the esc and even on/off switch. Just had a peak at the manual which is actually well laid out, in English, and colour as well! The esc is even prewired for running 2x2S lipos with Deans plugs. Although I'll be swapping those out for EC5 plugs.
Thought I'd post this info for anyone looking at buying one of these combos. So far I'm quite impressed, although the big test will be once I build my Ve8 and get this combo fired up!

Awesome! Let us know how hot the motor runs etc. I need a replacement for my MM esc and I'm wondering if I should just go with a budget esc instead of a MM Pro that can still handle big truck motors like the 36-75 XLs and such.

I have the xe-run 60 and 120 amp esc. They are exceptional for the price. Plus there is new software that adds turbo function to esc .
For the money cant be beat so far.

I installed the earlier model Xerun 2250/150amp ESC combo in my E-Revo conversion when the original Titan motors died. All I can say is that if the EZrun combo is as good(which it will be)you will have an excellent system.A lot of people have ridiculed these motor/esc combos but I have been using HobbbyWing products fo over a year now and have not had ANY issues with them.

That's what I've been reading everywhere on the net that these 1/8 systems are great and not many problems with them. Unlike the Tekin and LRP systems...
I had narrowed my choice down to the Castle and XeRun systems, and chose this mainly for the price and the reviews I was seeing.
Once I get my Ve8 assembled, I'll let everyone know how she runs.

RE: XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
I just put this combo in my E-Savage,,,,,, so much power i blew the inner diff housing bearing. It may have been getting week anyway after 5 months with previous brushless setup. So im going to re-build and tone down the punch setting and give itanother go. I think there are quite a few going this route with various machines so hopefully this will become an active thread, Good luck !!

RE: XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
K I've run into a major snag. The mounting holes for the motor don't quite line up with my motor plate for a Hot Bodies Ve8.
Now what??[:@]

Well I can get one of the screws lined up while the bottom of the motor plate is rounded to hold the base of the can. Wonder if this is enough to hold a 2250kv motor on 4S???

Actually that don't even work, cause the shaft rubs on the top of the shaft hole on the motor plate.[&o]

Did you flip the front and rear diffs when you built your kit or are you just going to run the motor in the reverse mode? If its the later do you know if it lowers the kv rating?
Cheers

Ah hah!! I brought out the Dremel and ground down the base of the motor plate and all is well
Give me a moment and I'll provide you a pic of what I did so the holes line up.
I just built the Ve8 as per instructions with the motor up front.

Here's a couple pics of what I did. In the one shot You can see how I ground down slightly (<1mm) of the bottom of the plate where the motor sits on so that 2 holes line up.
Gotta love the Dremel!

What's the top cell count you can run on this ? Isn't this the Brushless combo that Caster includes on all their RTR. I can't wait to see how you set up turns out.

RE: XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
4S on the 80A. and 6S on the 150A esc.
I'm about 99% done the build, just waiting on some mod 1 pinions and the 4S lipos to arrive. The included 13t mod 1 pinion is too small......won't even reach the spur. For recommended gearing with the 2250kv motor and Ve8, I'll probably end up settling with a 18 or 20t pinion or thereabouts. XtremeRC for example ran their 2200kv with a 20t pinion.
This is turning into my Xerun Ve8 thread lol

Looks great! I have heard nothing but good from the XErun systems. My setup isnt supposed to be as good as an XErun setup, but I have had no problems from it and the power is great, so yours should be even better.

.......think I best go and buy me a dremel!
I built the Ve8 the same but I mean fliiping the diffs 180 in their housings to obtain correct rotation rather than having to run the motor in the reverse mode (due to the motor being mounted on the battery side). I've read on here and various other forums that by running some motors in reverse it lowers the kv rating but im not sure if the xerun is the same.
Looks good though - let me know how it runs. I'm still waiting for my electrics and batteries from HK [&o]

RE: XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
There's that rounded lip that I circled in that one pic that the motor rests on......it sticks out maybe about 5mm. I guess the can on the Xerun motor is a little wider so that lip caused the motor not to sit flush and causing none of the holes to line up. So I just ground down the lip a little allowing the motor to just sit slightly lower allowing the holes to line up. In the manual it shows a castle motor and 4 screws in place. The Xerun motor appears to have a different bolt battern, so I can only get 2 to line up. Don't think 2 will be an issue since I see HB's motor plate hopup option only allows for 2 motor screws.
Never even realized the potential issue with the reversed motor mount. Don't think it'll be an issue as I just looked in the Xerun manual and there is a setup option to have the motor run clockwise or counter clockwise and says nothing about any reduced performance.

RE: XERUN 2250kv 4168SL 1/8th combo
Oh I see right, thanks for the clarification. I wonder if geting the one piece motor diff mount would solve this issue?
Prob cheaper for me than buying a Dremel!
One of the hobbywing team drivers said you can run them in reverse without lowering the kv so looks like you should be all set!
When will you be up and running? I'd really like to see a video of it!

Motor mount/diff mount shown from both sides here. Looks like that would be ok with the motor with no dremeling required?
