Here are some pics of my Clod. I have a Hummer base I am going to do next. I will make it forest green and age it like a beat up Forest Ranger car at least that is the plan right now....

It took me a while to do the steering mod on this one and get it correct, but it was a good excuse to buy a drill press! Anyway, I do like the final solution because it uses aluminum bumpers front and back and mounts the servos upside down and out of the way. My 3 year old just loves it!!

The Steering Links are from RCGuys. I bought the aluminum bumpers off a guy on ebay after a prolonged search. I had to shorten the steering links by cutting them shorter, drilling and retapping the threads. It turned out pretty nice. I had a little problem mounting the servos and keeping the profile low enough such that they didn't hit the servo links, but with a few mods got it to work properly.

I checked on Ebay and none listed a few days ago. I went back through my transaction history but this is remote enough that it was erased... Looked through my bazillion emails and did not find it either on a search. Sorry!

It's been a while here now, like 2 months? Anyways, I got some things to fix on my Clodzilla IV that's been down and never run much for a while now. I've been running those stock Tamiya 540's really hard on 14.4v the last time I ran it and the motors couldn't really take that much of that raw battery power. The green or yellow wire will become loose, once the motors overheats, but I can molt it back together again. Maybe I should use heatsinks? But they hits the chassis of the truck, when the suspension is in action. The problem is, I don't think these motors are really the best for 14.4v. Do anyone have any ideas or thoughts on which 540 motors to use that can take 14.4v? I have 550 motors lying around, but they are too big and they touches the suspension links, if you try to installed them in the truck, so needs a 540 type that is suitable for 14.4v use.

Do the new clods come with an esc now. Thank god they started putting esc's in a couple years ago, the mechnical speed controls were horrible.

The metallic special comes w/ ESC.. not the standard one.. but wouldn't surprise me if they include the ESC with the standard one (and a higher price, of course) in the future..

Here's a Super Clodbuster I built a few years ago, I custom mounted a hard plastic VW Bus body on it and it had working headlight and tail lights.

Thanks guys!
That's exactly what it was...... an LB on steroids ... 4WD + 4WS. That one had sllghtly smaller tires than the regular Clod.
Here's the second "LB" version on steriods.....

Well... damn this thread.. lol. Just got sucked into it badly.. I was getting an e-savage from a friend of mine but it looks like that isn't going to happen for a couple of months now... so I am thinking about a super clod now... I got a wheely king and it's a good clod type truck, but now the wife is showing interest in RC again (I guess 1/18th scale was kind of boring for her, but she likes the larger vehicles) so I am thinking about letting her drive the mostly stock WK and getting the super clod for myself.. just for bashing and fun.. seems like there's a good strong following for it and quite a few aftermarket upgrade options.. So I guess I should just get the cheapest kit I can find... seems like tower has the best price overall.. anything (mod wise) I should get with it right away? bearing kit I guess is a no brainer.. huh? oH.. and an ESC. I guess I will start there...

Picking up a Clod kit and all the radio gear for my brother for his birthday. He had one when we were kids, and since I got back into the hobby awhile back I thought it would be good to get him back into it as well.

I have everything I plan to buy all sorted except the ESC. Whats the current suggested model? I was thinking of something like Tamiya's TEU-103BK since its designed for dual motors and its inexpensive. More than likely he will stay with the stock silver cans or perhaps upgrade to a slightly faster motor...but nothing too fast.

So, in the $60 or so range, whats my best choice?

Yea, it started out as a original 80's Clod.
Those are the original Silver cans, they are fine on 14.4 volts as long as you give them frequent breaks from running.

It took about 2 months to get it together.

Yes, that's real carbon fiber. I got it from Full Force RC. It's their 2mm thick sheet, but I think the 1.5mm would work fine in this application too.
