Thanks for the input. I got frustrated and decided to use Robart hinges instead. Appears to be okay at this point. The wires look like they be useless. Do they work? Should I glue them in as I'm gluing the hinges to the plane? Thanks a bunch!

The wires work on mine, at least while its on the ground since mine hasn't flown yet. I don't have the wires glued in. They do need to be able to slide at least in one flap piece.

ESM Corsair flys great!! Got the maiden flight in today. Went well except I let it tip on its nose upon landing.
18.5 lbs, did not need additional weight to balance.
G-38 with Zinger 18 x 6-10. Turns about 7200 rpm on the ground,
Sierra gear,
CG at 124mm (as compared to 130mm in my manual)

What scale dummy radial engine did you get 1/5, 1/7, or 1/8?

Mine is about 85% done. Spent the better part o 3.5 days solid building. Toughest I've built yet!

Dummy engine is 1/7 I think ( 7 1/2" ). I just put a pilot in the cockpit. It's an officerand gentleman (Ziroli). I used only the upper body half since it was too long to fit hhe cockpit. I have always thought the head was too small anyway. It's supposed to be a 1/6 scale. Will post pix when available.

Id like to see pics of your pilot. I have a cockpit kit to complete and would like to have a nice pilot. Rough checking I need mucho Nose Weight!!! Going to put a heavy hub on and go from there. I have to install air lines yet and two centwr flap poe es to be done. Really procrastinating on the last two flap pieces. Using Saito 1.80 that I think I bought from you, Doc!

Thanks Brian, I have the same engine that Ralph converted for me. Couple of questions, How was the flight speed with the g-38 and with the CG set were it is was is she sensitive to elevator? And with the wieght were it is does she stall easy? I ask because I have the same set up of retracts and engine and other than waiting to recieve a flap mine is almost done!! Also what size spinner did you use?

Skillet92 - I think the flight speed is around 60 - 65 mph. Roughly scale speed, not a rocket. The thrust calculated out to about 13 lbs. The thrust/weight ratio is similar to my other warbirds. No hovering or unlimited vertical.

It did not seem too sensitive on the elevator. I did not have any expo in it for this flight. Normally I do use expo. I am leaving the CG right where it is.

I did not actually stall the plane. I flew it up high with with flaps down and gear down. Got down to low throttle and it had not stalled yet, so I quit that test. It handled really well all through the landing speeds.

Tru-Turn spinner TTH-BP-1250-A and the Tr-Turn G-38 prop adapter. I think its the 1.25" diameter spinner.

PS I am flying at 3700' ASL. You may get more engine hp at your altitude.

Brian, Glad to see you enjoying the airplane. I Like mine! have 15 flights on it now and it gets better each flight. That Aerovate 26 is breaking in fine and realy sings now. Everyone that I have let fly it have been impressed.
The one mod I have made is to preload the LG springs with a .350" long spacer to stiffen the struts. They seemed to be soft.
Stock they started to compress @ 9Lbs, with the spacer they start ~10.5 to 11 Lbs.

Simple Mod- no need to remove retract.
1. Loosen the 2 screws on the back of the strut and pull (twisting motion ) the strut off.
2. Remove the spring and centering pin from the strut bottom section.
3. Drop in an aluminum spacer plug .350" long and .350" width, and replace the pin and spring.
4. Replace the strut, and retighten the 2 screws. (Partialy retract the the mechanism and place a wooden wedge under the strut rotater cam when pushing the strut back together ).
Done
If any longer length preload is used, a significant loss in strut travil will result.
Another fix would be a stiffer spring and I'm looking into that.

Hi Doc,
I know things have been quiet on this forum for a while so I hope you are still around. I am just finishing my KMP Corsair power by an RCGF 26 and I am currently flying a CMP 82" AT-6 with this engine. The AT-6 weighs 18 pounds and I fly it with an 18x8 prop. The engine runs great with this prop having plenty of speed and does large loops. The only problem I have is slowing down for landing. The engine idles very low so I believe the pitch may be the problem. I have flown many larger warbirds with 8 and 10 pitch props with no problems. I read that you used an 18x6 on your Corsair. I was worried that the engine might over rev with this prop. Would you please let me know what brand prop you used and how the engine handled the smaller prop.

Tom, I had the best luck with a Xoar 17X10. We are almost 5 thousand feet. I also had good luck with with an APC 16X8.

Moki is too much power............ Use it on a 50cc bird. I used a moki 1.8 on a 26 lb yellow p-47, and it flew very well.(scale)

If it fits I say go for it! Although I never did fly it I put a Moki 1.80 in my ESM Hawker Typhoon and I don't think it would have caused any problems. Like the Corsair, the Typhoon needed lots of weight up front and the cowl was plenty big to swallow it up so why not? I'm now running the 1.80 in my Hangar 9 Sundowner and it flies it just right in my opinion. The Sundowner comes in around 14 pounds I would imagine so comparable to the ESM Corsair.

it is the same as the one that came with the kit, which I believe is the 1D. I guess the 1A wouldn't be too hard.
