Need help with a tug
Hi all, I am looking to convert the Tug "Amsterdam" to one of her sister tugs in the French Navy. As far as I have found out they are called A664 Malabar and A669 Tenace. My question is, was one of these tugs used in the Falklands war a few years ago to try and rescue a ship that was hit by a missile? Thank in advance for your help.

There was not time to get a salvage ship to the HMS Sheffield.
After the missle struck, it caused severe fires. The ships electrical and
water mains were destroyed, and the crew was unable to properly
fight the fires. The HMS Seffield was taken under tow by another
nearby frigate, but was eventually abandoned, and let sink due to
the fires and flooding. Twenty men died and a further 24 were
injured in the sinking of the HMS Sheffield.

The HMS Ardent was bombed twice... Wiki...
Ardent stopped in the shallow waters of Grantham Sound, the fires in her stern now out of control.
With the ship listing heavily, Commander Alan West decided to abandon the ship. HMS Yarmouth then
came alongside to take off survivors.
...
Ardent continued to burn throughout the night, accompanied by the occasional explosion, until
she sank at 6:30 the following morning, with only her foremast remaining above the water.

After multiple aircraft attacks the HMS Antelope made for a sheltered harbor where they
attempted to disarm or destroy an unexploded bomb,... the failure in their attempts resulted
in multiple fires...
the following day Antelope was found to be still afloat, but her keel had broken and her
superstructure melted into a heap of twisted metal. Antelope broke in half and sank that day.

The attack followed a day after the sinking of the Argentine cruiser General Belgrano.
An Argentine diplomat in the United States said the destruction of HMS Sheffield was
"justified after the massacre that the English have done shelling our men and our ships".

Could it have been the ''Atlantic Conveyor''?
Could it have been the ''Atlantic Conveyor''?
Scuttled....
Atlantic Conveyor was hit by two[2] Exocet missiles fired by a pair of Argentine Super Étendard jet fighters.
The ship caught fire, the fire then became uncontrollable. When the fire had burnt out, the ship was boarded but
nothing was recoverable and so the decision was made to sink her.
.
Both boats definitely served as grey boats, but I can't find any service records for them.

I have doubts about there being any French Navy presence in that area at that time.
They were originally commissioned into the French Navy in the mid-'70's, and would be unlikely to be hired out in an international dispute where France was happy to appear neutral.

There was plenty French ordnance involved and apparently the French resupplied the argies with more of it during the conflict which I'm sure did wonders for Anglo-French relations [:'(]
