RE: Warbird Race - Sacramento - August 1st - Tres Kahunas
SAM Tres Kahuna Results
On August 1st the Sacramento Area Modelers hosted the Tres Kahuna Classic. After a long day of racing with 38 pilots from all over California and Nevada here are the results (See Below). The CD’s would like to thank all the sponsors and workers of the event and I personally would like to add to their thanks. The event ran smoothly except for one minor altercation between two pilots of whom I was one of the two involved and to say the least I am appalled, disappointed in, and embarrassed with/by my behavior regarding the incident. Personally, I may have had too much going on to keep my head level and in the future will limit how much I take on in an effort to be a better representative for myself, the club and for the sport of racing.
With that said the real focus should be on the pilot’s efforts for the day. Each class had some excellent representation and there was some really strong racing in every class. I believe only one mid-air on the day between Mike Miller and Ray Brindos. Too bad because Ray lost a really nice Spitfire.
Lastly on a personal note I would like to congratulate Tommy Gun (Tom Richardi) on his win in the Gold. Tom has been working really hard to climb the ranks in Gold and smartly flew his 190 to victory this weekend.
Bronze
1. Steve Nickerson
2. Bianca DaSilva
3. Noel Howel
Silver
1. George Reidenbach
2. Marcelo DaSilva
3. Rob Watkins
Gold
1. Tom Richardi
2. Logan Shaw
3. Jim Smith
Sincerely,
Jimmy Skids

Hey Jimmy,
Thanks for the props here and at the field yesterday.
You played a big part in my success, as did many others.
Sergio, once again THANKS for the most excellent meal on our night before camp out and dinner.
And as Jimmy mentioned, thanks to all our competitors, sponsors, the CD's for taking the time and expending the effort to make this happen and ESPECIALLY TO THE VOLUNTEERS that make it all happen. Roger, Frank, D.J., Bob, Glenda, Christine, JR, and many many more that I can in no way name due to my limited memory resources.
More images here. I'm still going thru the racing shots.

Just could not get a handle on the break out time. Only had one round where I flew slower than 2:00. We all had a blast though. The Macchi 5 was flying great and getting faster each time I flew it. Going to do some tinkering to see if I can get it into the 1:35-1:40 time.

Hey Tommy,
Great set of pictures, as usual. Congrats on the win. Sounds like you beat a pretty strong field.
Blessings, Terry

Thanks Terry and Tim,
Actually Tim I prefer the "ABAMA" group. Anything but a Mustang again.
I will admit that it felt real nice running a round nosed plane out there that wasn't just a back marker waiting to "back door" a win.
The 190 ran in the low 1:30's all day thanks to a good strong YS 1.20 SC and the wing that was cut by Da Coach.
I am also thinking that concentrating on a single class was a benefit as compared to my typical modus operandi of running two classes.
And yes the plane did need some guidance, although my lines weren't as nice as I'd like to see, I don't think I scared any of my competitors and I didn't have to repair the plane after the races were finished!
I sure hope I can do as well next month. I like this "winning" thing.

Gentlemen (and Lady Bianca),
It was painful not being "truly" out there with you guys. ..being able to race. But, here's a link to some more pictures of the day that I was able to shoot while I was out there. I hope you will enjoy:

Do ya think these guys look like they got into my "adult" beverages a little early?
(Wait a minute . . . I didn't get to stick around, so I didn't get to make beverages this time! Sorry guys, I'll make it up to you next time!)

Those are some great pictures Ollie! Thank you for getting so many shots of my plane and Kim and me. I think the best shot was the picture of the t-shirt with Tommy Gun and his beloved mustang! He looked sooooo happy in that picture!

Casey, you are being watched.
Iron Dog, for a guy that forsake a race in favor of a rock concert, you got some stones my friend.
Do I really have to ask you to stop photo shopping my friend into those images of leadfoot with his NASCAR style team shirt?
Show some class man.
