Default Falcon cat and a newb

Hi folks,

Lets start with this. I've been running and maintaing my Dumas hotshot for about 10 years. 3.5cc nitro outboard. Fun boat.

I can't help it. I want to build a gasser. I have'nt 'built' in so long I'm a little concerned and would like to check my thought process. I found a falcon cat with hardware on the bay(see link below). It looks like what I'd like for a starter gas boat. I don't like the look strut or the rudder. I'm thinking of using a duel inlet rudder. Do folks use a drive line stinger stinger on cats? I'm also looking at this engine. Its a cheap clone. I'm wondering if Zenoah accessories gereally fit. I'm looking to get into this and then upgrade the engine.

If you've got the time to have a look please send me feedback. I know the engine isn't what I'll want next season, but I'm just trying to get on the water before the snow flies this year.

Thought? Anyone have a documented build of this boat?

Falcon is a good Cat and good place to start ........... avoid the import 'copy' engines just go to Gizmo or one of others and pickup stock Zenoah 260 .... usually less than 200.00 .. spend the extra 75 it will pay in the long run .. parts fit and work on Zenoah

Oh and do a search ..... tons of these boats have been build ........ stock Zenoah usually around 55 mph out of the box .................

Thanks for the input. I'll just get the Zenoah. What are your thoughts on a outdrive stinger? The M&D is pretty sexy.

The Stinger style drive is only for use on hulls where the bottom of transom meets the running surface. They would not work on the Falcon Cat or any hull that has a tunnel running down the center not for hydro or rigger for similar reason. They are mostly used for mono's and I guess they run them on some cracker boxes also. Definetely go for a Zenoah or RCMK.

Stick with Speed MAster hardware from Gizmo, CCR or another name - Usually a long or skeg strut and close in rudder

I'm so stoked. That totally puts my fears to rest about buying that hull. Great videoDaniel!I'ma Dan as well btw.

Any thoughts on vee's vs cats. I dig the cat because of the years running the tunnel hull outboard. I'm moving to San Diego. Their club runs in a freshwater pond right on Mission Bay. Will I have better luck with a Vee due to the winds off the bay?

They're fun boats. Do a search in this forum on Falcon 41 and you should see plenty of info on them. What Frank has on eBay isn't a bad deal as he is selling the hull alone for $200.00 shipped. A US dealer for these hulls may be coming soon so that it will be easier and faster to get one. I'll let all of you know when that happens.
Here's a brief video of mine running last Sunday, it's first time on the water this year with an RCMK in it. I still need to try some more props and get it ready for a race next month.

G'Day.... I've had a falcon for a couple of yrs now and i love it...Cant kill it, Well not yet anyway, Goes like the clappers (mid 60's) Very strong and robust. Highly recommended for a good all round boat.

Cheers Scooter

The Falcon is a great boat and Frank is a great guy to deal with! You really can't go wrong. The hull is very versatile and is just at home run straight line speed runs as it is in oval trim. It is also a very setup forgiving boat and would make a good first cat... I would not hesitate to buy another if/when I ever manage to kill my first one...

Although mine is red and white I really wanted the lime green one as it really looks good in that color! I only got this one because I got a deal on it.

Yes, I know who is seriously considering handling them but I'm really not at liberty to say who right now and not sure how soon. It could be weeks or a month or so. He;s trying to keep his prices competitive with Frank's. Right now, Gas Parts Plus is supposed to be a US importer but don't know if he has any in stock. http://www.gaspartsplus.com/falcon.htm

I need to call him today anyway so to see if he has some hardware in stock yet. I'll have to remember to ask him. If he is going to carry these I would consider buying another one in lime green.

It looks like he is going to carry them. He has them on the web page for $225.00 That 48in mono looks sweet too. And the price isn't bad either. I was thinkin on the green pickle too but its the only one not on the page[]. Maybe you can get him to stock it too.

I sure hope one of them gets there ducks in a row. I was thinking the falcon and a rcmk like your running. It looks like yours was doing pretty good in the video. Was that a spin out at the end that I thought I saw. I been trying to get a friend to drive up to flint to see the speed runs.Sure would be a good experience to see how the top dogs are running the gassers. My buddie is hooked he just got his zipp kit deep v going with a bonzi stage 2. I have had a hex on me trying to get the dumas going with the ops.67 dual plug. It sounds pretty hairy. I think Im close to getting it to run right.

Ok. I need some experience. I can get this hull on ebay. just the hull to my door for $213:

http://cgi.ebay.com/41-Falcon-catama...ntrol_Vehicles

Or with everything less motor/pipe/tank/radio for $363:
http://cgi.ebay.com/41-Falcon-cat-rc...ntrol_Vehicles

Any thoughts on this? I'm kind of sketched by the noname hardware from china.

Is a Stryker Topgun or f41 a faster hull?

I'm trying to buy right the first time. So give it to me straight.

The combo is cheap. It just includes alot of stuff I would not use. Also if you are wanting speed. You will want a different prop for this boat. For the price and quality, I would choose hands down the falcon over the Top gun or F41.

AS mentioned, it is a very fast hull and easy to set up.

Ok. decision made. Falcon cat it is. I'm just waiting to hear from Wes @ gaspartsplus.com to see what their ETA on to the door would be. I'd rather pay the extra 8 bucks and keep the profit in the states than ebay it from Shanghai. I'd have liked Lime green but oh well.

Now to motors.

Zenoah G260PUM or RCMK S254 EVO?
