Thanks guys.

Im sure it will be pretty uneventfull, and fly great.
It almost has the outline of a piper cub, just low winged

I had my brass tag I made, laser engraved. Maybe you could do one for your Gilmore.

Well......it did not go too well

ASP started and ran great.
So I lined it up on the strip, and added power.
The Gilmore took off by itself, and climbing at a 10 degree angle, so I trimmed it for level flight.
It was a little gusty today, and it got battered around as if it was a foamy parkflier.
The plane felt a little tail heavy, but it flew fine at 60-70% throttle.
I was just enjoing the engine sound, so I flew it arond as much as possible

Then.......the engine rpm started to sag, right ov er middle of the field.....I tried to lower the throttle a little, and see what happened, and it just decreased further.
So I have it full throttle again, and turned it downwind to fly over the field and then line up an land. But ofcourse the speed was too low at the last leg, and it snaped rapidly, and went in nose first.

It crashd in a water resouvior, and was floating on the surface
I watied until the wind had blown it to the edge, and got it out of the water.

Damage is actualy not that bad at the moment.
Im wating to see how the plane is when all the balsa has dried up again.....see if the glue joints are good or bad.

Engine seems allright.....just have to take it apart now, and oil it up, or it will look like the Titanic inside it...

The pond is deep.......and it is actualy floating in the pictures

Deffinatly an easy repair, if the water hasn`t damaged too much.

Hopefully it will be an easy fix and the Gilmore will fly again soon. With a slighty forward CG maybe.

yea.... it is still drying

One of the leading edges of the wings has completly split open almost full lenght.
A rocker cover on the engine has also been damaged.

I hope I can fix it all.

Hi !

Thats how my ASP have been the last year too , stops in the air like you described it , i have changed bearings and all , the engine run fine on the ground , but after 5 minutes in the air it loses rpm and die. It is a bad engine , and i have retired the ASP now . a 9 kg heavy plane needs a reliable engine. I thin i`ll go for a 2 cyl gas engine.

Thanks for the info Nils.

Maybe the the carb gets too hot after some minutes of flying when the casing is heated up., and messes up the fuel mixture.
Cant think of anything else that could cause problems.

It would be quite easy to make an insulator block between the carb manifold, and the engine casing.

It couldn't be the carb icing up could it? Is there and O.S. carb that will fit these things?

I think i know one reason , after reading alot on these forums about glow radials . They say it has uneven poor fuel distribution to each cylinder , thats why it loose one cylinder and stops after some minutes in the air.
The saito 325 has a intake fan , and if you go on the OS wbsite and look at the pics of their new 7 cyl it also has a fan in the back . The ASP only have some ducts in the intake.
Thats probably why the ASP fails , the factory should make some improvements to it

Well, I ave only flown mine once...so I cant realy conclude anything.

I will have to fly it some more, and then tinker with it.......when i get the plne repied.

Anyone know where you can get replacement part for black horse models ?
Need a cowl, or at least a wing tube....I can repair the cowl.
Wing tube seems to be almost 32mm in diameter.....

I have been following your progress . I am building one with a DLE-55. Earlier in the the thread you wrote it was a little nose heavy. Do you know where the C.G. was located. I am sorry about your plane. You really done a fine job on your exhaust manifold.

Hi

My CG was around 10,5cm to 11 cm. I think the manual says 12cm
When I get it repaired, Im going to move it to around 8-9 cm.

Ouchh....i feel sorry for you SJN ![]

You definately need a new cowl and wing tube!

IMO the wing tube ,

if i also use my experience with the BH P-36A Hawk (.....see my gallery )

the wing tube is flimsy, soft and you'd better find a solution - a replacement wing tube,
from another manufacturer .......

Just my thought's though...

On my P-36A i just used the supplied one,

BUT remember that the wing tube is GLUED with epoxy between the wing halves....
your wings can be separated.....
