Default JR PCM9X On 2.4 Can it be done

Hi there all, I have a JR PCM9X Radio and was wondering if anyone knows if this radio can be upgraded to 2.4 and whether it works OK.

I believe in the US, the XP9303 is the equivalent, or close to it. I have an XP9303 with a Spektrum Module and it works fine.

There are several alternatives available for upgrading a PCM9X radioto 2.4 GHz. Manufacturers that sell 2.4 GHz modules for JR PCM9X are for example Assan, Corona, Graupner IFS, Weathronic, JETI.

Here in the UK I hav been using a JR 2.4g module in my PCM 9 Tx for over 1 year now with an RD 921 Rx with 2 EA 101 satelite
Rx's. It also works well in an 9303. You will be very happy with this setup. regards Mike T. Bromsgrove England. [email protected]

I have just purchased and installed a Spectrum 2.4 gig conversion for my 9 X 11. The local distributers will no longer import the JR module conversion (to dear). I have seen the Spectrum to JR conversion work well with one very big proviso, do not keep changing the modules between (here 36mhz) the FM frequency module and the 2.4 gig module as the pins will wear out / distort resulting in lots of grief

I'm confused. I thought that you could only use a 2.4 module with a PPM (FM) TX. If I'm not mistaken the PCM 9 is only PCM and the modulation is 512 (Z and G ). Are you saying that there is some after market 2.4 modules that will work with the JR PCM9 TX?

As was stated above, I believe the PCM9 is similar to the XP9303. Each Model Memory has a parameter, called Modulation, that can be changed from PPM to one or more PCM types. I have had an older Futaba Conquest radio that was PCM only, but it did not have RF Modules like the 7, 8, and 9ch Futaba radios. My first JR radio was an XP8103. It used RF Modules and had the Modulation parameter.

It is my understanding that the JR PCM9 is NOT switchable from G and Z PCM to either PPM or S PCM. Am I Mistaken? If it can not be switched from PCM then I don't believe the 2.4 Module of any manufacture will work.

Here is a link to the PCM9X manual and it clearly states that Modulation can be changed from various PCM types to PPM.

Is this the same radio?

Here is an ad for the PCM9X II.

http://www.modelflight.com.au/rc_mod...o_pcm9x_v2.htm

It also has a Modulation parameter.

We are talking about two different PCM9 TX's. The one I am talking about is the Single stick PCM9 that was available in the early 90's. It was also sold by Circus Hobbies in las Vegas under license from JR. This PCM TX was only 512 and not switchable. Although the 2.4 module will slip right in it will not work.

As I said before I have a 9X 11 and it works well (to well with all the bits and pieces) with my spectrum conversion as do 2 similar conversions that I know about
