Default Rcexl Ignition

I bought a replacement ignition from a local hobby shop this year that has since went out of business and just went to put it on a dle 55 and do not have any spark. I checked the battery, spark plug, connections and switch and everything checked out ok, except no spark. The date on the ignition is 2010 01 09 and the serial number is ARH000127. Can anyone give me a link to a usa factory repair center, so that I can send it in to be checked. Thanks Bob

They can not be repaired, Just replaced.

One test to make so you are sure it is the ignition and not the sensor.

Plug a battery straight into the ignition, and do not plug it into the sensor. Now take a small wire and touch the two out side leads on the connecter that goes to the sensor, It should spark each time you touch them and then release.
If it does not you have a bad ignition

Thanks for the response and I will try the test this afternoon. Do you know where I would send the unit to for replacement, assuming it is bad. Thanks Bob

Try Bobs Hobby Center in Orlando 407 277 1248.

They are the YDA engine distributer and have genuine RCXL ignitions in stock and I believe they are $59.99.

They also have the hall sensor testor.

Check the pickup first and follow the advice from the previous messages. Bobs also has the replacement pickups as well

Hope this helps

I did the check as you suggested and the ignition sparks. Do you know where I can get the hall sensor lead exchanged under warranty.

Thanks Bob

Usually, the postage cost more than hall sensor

You will probably find it easier and cheaper just to buy a new sensor (annoying I know)
If all else fails try this web site, look in the spare parts page. I have had good service from them.

Did you install the hall sensor correctly? To check, take the hall sensor off of the hub and turn it over. Now pass it over the magnet and see if you get a spark each time you pass it over. If it does then the sensor needs to be taken apart and the electronic piece needs to turned over, the other thing you can do is turn the magnet over or install a new one in the correct orientation.

What hall sensor are you using? Is it the one that came with the ign you bought or the original from the motor?

Can the sensor chip be purchased directly from an electronics house? (e.g. Digi-Key)
Does anyone have the part number?

Anthony,
I have learned a lot from everyone's input and now I am a better person. The sensor Came with 2 holders and I had to assemble and place a wedge in and it is probably reversed. I ordered a new sensor from Tower that is assembled and I think that will take care of my problems. Thanks Everyone for the help. Bob

Hi Bob,

Steve from Dale's airfield. I wish I would have known about it because I believe I have 2 new units here at the house. Call Dale or Henry or Walt to get my phone number, or reply back to my E-mail address with your phone number. I bought 2 extra when I had one of my engines serviced.

Signing off.......

SLOP ALONG CATASTROPHE
