Default What is an honest "extreme speed" plane these days?

I would like to have another fast prop plane that's not a Q40 right now. So what is available that is an honest extreme speed prop plane?

I'm not really interested in delta's, though it seems that may be the way to go, not sure.

150mph is not extreme speed, 175mph is not extreme speed, not in my opinion, airplanes like the sundowner, the revolver, etc etc are quick sport planes, but they're not speed planes.

Are there commercially available speed cup style airplanes (and are there some that are not all composite cost an arm and a leg type airplanes)?

I'm happy to build a kit, it does not need to be composite either.

I went down the road of whiplash's, magnum's, diamond dusts, etc and they bore me. I have an OS46 ducted fan engine, is there a speed cup style airframe out there that will take that engine and give you an honest 200mph?

It would just be nice to have something that will do an honest 200mph without having to drive the 2.5 hours it takes me to go fly turbines.

Thanks in advance!
Jeremy

You obviously haven't put the right motor on these airframes, since my Magnum tickles 200 and someone here already had a Screamin Demon over 200.

ILoveJets......or is it.....ILuvJets did a huge write up presented here and at RCG about what all is out there. It was done some time ago, but he listed contacts for more info.

If 200mph with a Screamin' Demon or Magnum isn't good enough, or too boring..try the SPEED COBRA. ILJ calls it a great plane to get an easy 200 out of.

I don't think there is a plane that will get that motor over 200mph.

What about an F5D electric?

I was going to mention an F5D electric also, or a hot sp 400 pylon racer like a Voodoo. With the right set-up they'll do it no problem.

only reason I mentioned the F5D's is because the worlds just ended and often you see planes get sold reasonably that are used. Team Canada did well finishing 2nd overall, US scratchs out a 3rd, and no one could touch the Austrians.

f5d tiny terrors. The size is relative to the appeared speed. Should require max concentration and give you the andrenalin rush which I think you crave.

Did you ever maiden the firebird? Would love a video link here. Damm fine job on the pantwork.

Good point DaveN

Can the OS46DF do 200mph with any type of a realistic prop on the bench? You're looking at a 7x8 prop [roughly] at close to 27,000 static to have a reasonable expectation.

180 with a 30" wing has to seem fast at $175

http://www.soaringusa.com/products/p...ategory_id=265

A little bigger wing and cost, but not bad.

I always thought this plane looked cool, should be capable at $269.

Yeah a Novarossi .15 sized screamer could probably be squeezed in there, that would be something to behold.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

That Cheetah will not go fast. Very limited in room in the fuselage for big batteries and the layup is hardly strong. That Sunracer wing will be suspect much past 150mph too. Boomerang I can't comment about but a 30" plane will be very hard to fly at 200mph and you'll have to run a super high C battery due to limited battery room.

200mph seems very unlikely from that ducted fan motor even in a Q40. All the glow planes mentioned will not see close to 200mph with that motor.

According to ILJ's thread which I've been researching for a week or so now, there are a couple planes that will do 200 with an OS46VXDF.

The Accent ARF from Topmodel though I can't find it on their website anywhere

The Berreta 21 might get there if you can shoe horn the 46 into it, I would think if you can fit the engine in there, the Stinger 21 might do it too. http://www.modellmotorentechnik.de/eingang.html

I am just trying to avoid buying another engine, I might try scratch building something too, who knows, truth be told, I don't have any time to fly these days anyway haha.
