Hi Maxam

I had the same thoughts but believed the airframe was not strong enough for this weight and power, therefore I build now a Turner Special same size but a lot stronger with a Seidel 9-90, if you build it you self you know how it was done in the first place. Still for an ARF it is quit good quality just the timber used is very soft, if you go with the Gilmore I recommend you rebuild the landing gear section and reinforce it.

I CA`d the wheelpants at the seam, and re-enforced them with carbon on the inside.
I cut some strips of orastick #23, and covered the visable seam line on the outside. Turned out allright.

I installed a heatsink under the resistor of my microsens glowsystem, as it gets realy hot when in use.
I now have a mix in my radio, so I can switch glow power on all the time, and not only from idle to half throttle.

Installed some carbon rods in the fuselage, where my batteries had taken out some of the wooden formers in the crash.

Started up the engine again, and seemsto run like before.

Trying to fix another little problem.....

The axel nuts on landing gear can easily snag the wheel pants when the suspension is moving up and down.
Seems litle everyone is splitting the wheel pant becuase of this.

So here is my solution V1.0

Took some plastic card and cut it into strips, and bent them like the pics.
In my theori they should prevent the nuts to snag on the wheel pants, and guide them away.
I glued them on with silicone. Very strong, but easy to remove with a shar knife when needed.

Its probably not a fantastic soultion, as I can imagine grass might rip them away, or damage them......but time will tell.

Also, secure both axel nuts with CA or thread locker....seen too many pictures of te wheels leaving the strut too...

I have only spread wood glue around all the joints in the whole front of the plane, as much as I could reach.

You are doing excellent repair work Sonny!

About those resistors, surprisingly the exact same style resistor used to be used on the buses I worked on several years ago. There were two of them side by side attached to the outside of the radio compartment. I do not know what they were used for, but I do recall seeing them constantly being thrown in the dead parts bin because they seemed to burn out frequently and the radio techs replaced lots of them!

Your idea for the landing gear is very clever. I see you also used an official model flyers ID card so that should make it a legal modification.

Very happy to hear your engine is alright, and looking forward to a VIDEO (Hint-Hint!) next time of the re-maiden. [sm=teeth_smile.gif]

Default RE: BH Gilmore Red Lion 50cc

Well, had 6 flights today
And i forgot to take the camera with me....sorry. I realy had planed to take it with me

CG at 10 cm is fantastic. It realy flys great. Knife edges are realy easy with this plane.
My wheel pants are holding up great, so my plastic card mod seems to work out realy well.

I flew with glow on all the time, to make sure the engine ran great....and it did
There is enough fuel in the tank for at least 10 munuite flights........ the way I fly anyway.

The engine likes the Menz 20/8 prop, and the plane flys realy well at half throttle.
Im not 100% sure it is running on all 5 cylinders, as one of the bottom cylinders is quite alot cooler then the others....ill have to look into that.
Cylinder has good compression, and there is glow in the plug when I test it....and the plug is wet....so there is fuel......it must work.
The engine runs strong, so I dont realy know....

My bearings need to be replaced though.
They sound a bit rough, but they are not on the brink of destruction yet.

But it realy sounds fantastic in the air....We have a pond for boats, and 2 race tracks for rc cars at our club, and the guys stoped running ther cars, and came over too see what was sounding so cool

thats cool Sonnich, Sounds like you did a great job working everything out. I landed mine long and ran into tall grass. Busted the wheel pants. When I get them repaired I am going to use your plastic card mod.

Thanks guys

The glow plugs used around 700 mAh for about a 6-7 minute flight, and my servos use around 100 mAh pr flight.

So the glow system is power hungry when used all the time. Glad I have the 1s 2P 8000 mAh batt in there.

Well, just have to fix the cowl, and all will be well.

I have just been filling and sanding.....filling and sanding...filling and sanding.....
Still needs some more time on it before im satisfied.

I have to order some cream, ferrari red and clear 2k Oracolor paint to make it look good again.
Still alot of work.

Would have been alot easier if I could order a new cowl somewhere....probably even cheaper.

My local hobbyshop is now selling Black horse models.
He has spare parts on the way from china, so im going to get a new cowl when they arrive.

In the mean time, I found some red spray paint, and used a little on the cowl.
In bad lighting, and from a distance, it looks allright

Will look fine in the video tomorrow

You did a heck of a fine job on repairing that cowl. Once painted black on the inside, no one would ever guess it had looked like a Pug recently.

Will look fine in the video tomorrow
Awesome! Looking forward to it.

Default RE: BH Gilmore Red Lion 50cc

what can I say......hehe

The Gilmore red lion flys absolutly fantastic as long as it has power.
But when the power cuts out, it glides like a card board box.

I almost managed to save it.
I was flying pretty low, because of poor visibility....as you probably can see in some of the pics.
Again, I lost power over the evil pond, and I just managed to nurse it across the water, and over the bank where the wheels just got riped off, tearing a chunk out of the wings.
The engine was still running, but would not give me power. Only when the prop hit the ground, it reved up, and I imidiatly shut it down, as th plane skided across the mud.
