Default Airfoilz Edge 540NX Powertrain

Fellas I have my eye on an Airfoilz Edge 540NX.

What's a good (ie, powerful) motor/esc/battery combo for this model?

I'm in no hurry, so I'd likely source all 3 components from Hobbyking.

thx
Jeff

edit- or if there's a thread, that'd be great too, thx.

I just built one of these..I used 1500ma packs from Zippy. For the motor I used a Greyson hobby 2209-17 about 225 watts and the plane has plenty of power for 3d and hover with that..on a APC 10x6 prop..

Thx Maz. I couldn't find the Grayson 2209-17 on their site but I did find this: http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...ies-p-337.html

What about the 540NX combo from 3DX? They use the BP motor & ESC. Here's the motor specs from BP's website:

APC 10 x 5 E: Volts: 7.91V Amps: 13.87A Thrust: 23 oz Power: 110W RPM: 7100
(incl with combo)

Bigger prop:
APC 11 x 5.5 E: Volts: 10.61V Amps: 25.98A Thrust: 41.8 oz Power: 283W RPM: 7900

Here's the BP motor/prop chart: http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...7&pid=D1748438

Now I'm a nitro guy and don't kow squat about electrics. What does this all mean?
Running an 11.1V 1500 mah lipo, will this powertrain get 'er dun???

The motor/combo as included are about $48...so unless there's a better motor/esc deal out there, wouldn't this be the best bet for strong performance?

Hey Mag wher y'all fly up there in Mayretta?

thx
Jeff

I`m out at Cobb County RC...Sorry it was a 2217-09...the numbers really don`t mean anything...you need 225-270 watts or so..my setup with that motor and 1500ma and a 10x6 works fine...BP hoppies sells that motor as well...Jason

I had that exact plane for the longest time and Loved it....

I ran the Torque 20T/1030...

and so you don't think it is a shameless plug that was well before I worked where I work now....

Thx...CCRC sure is nice; was there once for a heli funfly...good hike from Newnan, tho!

Back to the 540NX...any opinion on the motor/esc combo from 3DX? From what I can see, depending on how you prop it, that powertrain looks good?

Here's Grayson's combo (I think this is the motor you have):

http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...ies-p-337.html

Before I order I'm just trying to get a sense if the #DX combo motor & esc are a good value (at $48), or if I should be looking at something else...(ie, will the same $48 get a better motor & esc)

thx
Jeff

Thx Paul, and I'm getting ready to order either the kit or combo. I was just doing a small poll here to see what others thought of the listed combo motor & esc, vs possibly some other options.

Here's a question: your combo includes the BP A2810-11 motor. You also include an APC 10x5E prop. But quoting from the BP website, about the motor: "Manufacturer recommends a 11x5.5 prop on 3-cells" ...so I was wondering why the choice of the 10x5?

From the same motor chart, the 11x5.5E on the 2810-11 is: 10.6V, 26A, 42oz thrust, 283W, at 7900rpm.
Again, coming from nitro, I know zip about the electrics but that sounds strong to me!

Anyhooo- there are tons of motor/esc/prop combinations out there, from cheapo to very expensive. About $50 for a good motor & esc seems resonable to me, if it'll haul the plane with authority.

I was just curious what some others were using.

thx
Jeff

It would be strong with 283 watts...There is so many different motor props combos its not funny. With 225 mine does`t have unlimited vertical ,but holds a half way decent hover to give you an idea. The kit actually has some pretty slick ideas and nice parts for the price..I like how the manual is on CD.

That 283W rating comes from using an 11x5.5E prop (as recommended by the motor maker)...you ever think of trying that one?

Anybody else run the BP motor with that prop?
