FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

    Hello.

I just acquired one extremely like 'new' Fly Zone Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready) from a good friend a few miles away.

I have not seen such a well designed Foam (EPP) model ever until I laid eyes on this one from Fly Zone. It has a very smooth finish to the foam and the wings are very stiff and has spars running throughout the wing assembly and best of all it has a very smart method of joining the two halves of the wing together with a overlapping joiner with plastic tabs.

The Main landing gear goes on with two screws and the entire tail (Horizontal & Vertical Stabs) get inserted with a foam keel and held by one machine screw. The servos are pre-installed and control horns all done for you.

This must be the Fastest Build I have ever done!

    Fly Zone Web Site:

    Fly Zone Sensei Manual:
    http://manuals.hobbico.com/hca/hcaa2535-2536-manual.pdf

I used the Castle Creations BERG 7-Channel Super Narrow 72Mhz FM Rx:
Inserted some white and flexible foam on both sides of RX Crystal:
    Receiver Final Installation:
    Control Horn Plastic Locks:
    Used a Turnigy 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 25C discharge, Li-POLY:
Showing Velcro inside the FUSE / Battery Compartment:
Battery tucked inside the FUSE / Battery Compartment:
    Battery Plastic Hatch Closed:
Another item of deviation was the propeller (However, I quickly learned the the STOCK 10 X 5 is very adequate) so, for the maiden flight I selected the APC "Slow Flyer" 10 X 7 as this propeller did provide balanced amount of airspeed and thrust:
Here is my Maiden Flight with the Fly Zone Sensei R-Rx (Receiver Ready)

    The Setup:
    Stock Motor /ESC
    Stock Servos and linkages
Receiver: Castle Creations BERG 7-Channel DSP 72Mhz Super Narrow Band
    Battery: Turnigy / Zippy 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 25C discharge, Li-POLYs
Other: EC3 -to- Ultra Deans Connector
Propeller Used: APC "Slow Flyer" 10 X 7

    Summary:
I can not stop talking about this model as it is perfectly designed and if you see inside the FUSE and the manner in which it goes together Wow, just a few minutes is all you need.

The Flight characteristics is majestic at best. She is a true Floater more like a Super Large GWS E-Starter with the Tri-Cycle gear and lots of improvements! In the following Video, I did not do too much stuff with it because that CHEAP Plastic Spinner did not seat well and I did not dare to Throttle UP too much.

    Here's the Video:

Here is the Video of my fight count #3 & #4 and the later finally has some success of the party streamer to deploy.

    The Setup: (Both Flights)
    Stock Motor /ESC
    Stock Servos and linkages
Receiver: Castle Creations BERG 7-Channel DSP 72Mhz Super Narrow Band
    Battery: Turnigy / Zippy 3-Cell, 2200mAH, 25C discharge, Li-POLYs
Other: EC3 -to- Ultra Deans Connector
    Propeller Used: STOCK 10 X 5

RE: FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

I was able to arrange for 3 other Buddies to meet up at a fantastic location we affectionately call "EDWARDS" for the simple reason it reminds us of that wide and vast runway area in the West Coast.

Had a great time and was able to fly my Fly Zone Sensei for three wonderful flights and each time deploy the Yellow Streamer over head for pin point landing every time!

A few pictures of my Fly Zone Sensei at EDWARDS!

RE: FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

David, Like to thank you for taking these Fantastic Pictures of my model!

David Hart (Dwhart24) was kind enough to bring his Digital SLR camera with this large lens:

And took some of the best digital pictures of my Fly Zone Sensei yet!

    Take a look:
You are looking at Two Red Party (Paper) Streamers with Peanut (Food) Weights and one Pin Pong Ball coming down. The 2nd streamer has just made it out from out of the FUSE and is extending to full length.

As you all can see clearly, this model's wing assembly has a very robust interlocking Spar System that is 2nd to none that I have seen!

I am enjoying this model very much.

I have flown it as much as my other regular models that I bring with me!

Something about its grace and majestic manners!

Carlos, I had to re-post your images, when you place them in-line like that they blow out the whole page and make the page take forever to load.

That said, I am the guy who flew the Sensei for the review in RCU Magazine and I agree with you 100% - This thing is one of the sweetest fliers I have ever had the pleasure of flying!

    Thanks for re-attaching my pictures.

I have no problems with my fast HP Pavilion G6 Laptop in loading anything but, I do understand that others are with older computers with nothing more than 2 Giga-Bytes and slower Processor and perhaps still with Windows XP

RE: FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

    Guys,

I took my eye off on my model!

For those that are questioning the Durability of the model and effects of Cowling and motor etc...

I had flown my SENSEI earlier in the morning and performed a successful Party Streamer Drop. Then, I went on to fly my other models and I decided to go at it again and the only person at the Pilots Station was Rodney flying his large Gasoline Model that must weigh 25lbs. or so. In a previous flight he has been having some issues with the Fuel System or Engine as after two minutes it quits. Some when I was flying my SENSEI for the 2nd time in the morning I took off and decided to land to adjust the contents of bomb drop compartment.

Just as soon as I landed my Sensei, Rodney declares a Dead Stick (meaning his large and heavy Gasoline model had Engine problem and Engine Quit). I did not know how high or low he was nor what position so, I decided to quickly take off again so I could leave the field for his landing.

I circled my Sensei up high and it was over the man made Lake with Brackish water and just as soon as Rodney landed I looked over to my Sensei and it was spiraling down, nose first and it was only 20 feet and I just had this horrified look on my face and just watched the model splash into the water and made a gigantic splash and I though to myself, Hefty Trash bag....

It was not after the wave it made calmed down that I saw to my surprise it was completely in one piece and floating better than any RC Boat I have ever seen!!!

The only thing that broke was the Propeller and I am sure the motor and ESC got some water but, not to the point that I feel did any damage as I quickly too off to HomeDepot and Bought the Electrical CRC Spray for Electrical / Electronic components and sprayed the living water off all items and dried them out.

Here is some of the action from this morning.

    This model is AMAZING!!!

CLOSEUP SHOWING WATER DROPLETS STILL ON THE MODEL AND IT BEADS!!!

You're lucky! I had a little water hit an ESC once and the resulting fire melted a lot of foam before I could get the battery unplugged! [X(]

The jury is not completely out on the STOCK ESC as it may short out as soon as I connect the battery or a few cycles later so, the model will be in constant observations before it will fly again.

    Yes indeed, I am lucky.

RE: FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

Like to report that I flew my Flyzone SENSEI for at least 6 Flights during the WATTFEST (Electric Fly-In) at the Tampa RC Airplane Club (TRAC) and it was just amazing performance and the batteries come out COLD! Much better Airspeed at the higher RPMs and super stable flight in the lower RPMs.

I like to add / repeat that the Park Zone 2-Blade, 9.75 X 7.5 propeller is the sweet spot for this Flyzone Sensei model trainer.

It provides very good acceleration (at least on smooth hard surface) and in the air it really shines. The model itself handles wind very well given the right skill level at the controls and has wonderful manners in all aspects, most especially landings.

At nothing over 22-AMPs and 228 Watts it certainly provides good overall performance at a reduced AMP draw. The batteries came down ICE Cold during the countless flights at the WATTFEST event near Tampa, Florida.

Recall that this model landed in Brackish Water / Lake and the Electronics has survived and proof are several Ground Testings plus the 5 - 6 Flights at the RC Electric event!!!

It was breezy and the model exhibited super flight characteristics and performed countless Touch and Goes at the RC Club with smooth Asphalt Runway.

    Pictures pending!
    Carlos

EDIT: My SENSEI in action and my Space Shuttle at the WATTFEST event!

These were possible by David Hart of Orlando, Florida.

Again, you can clearly see the robust interlocking Spar System this model comes with. Excellent design.

Sensei is 1 awesome plane I started with a flyzone super cub, then purchased the sensei and flat love it. It is such a smooth flyer. I did put bigger landing gear on so I could take off better in grass.

RE: FLY ZONE Sensei Rx-R (Receiver Ready)

I just ordered another one for "parts" $129 is a good deal. I've not very many flights on mine yet , but have just moved the COG back to the middle. Maybe it will land a touch slower now. I plan on flying mine more , especially if it lands on my lawn better. I've always used 2 packs , so I now have 1 pack right in the drop box and 1 pack in the front.
    and airplanes were in
