I got the alluminum sleeve for the 020. You need to fit properly into the XS motor mount, otherwise the motor will pitch upwards.still waiting for my motor, so as soon as my ships built, I'll upload some pictures, and possibly videos of it.

Its never to windy to fly man. I remember when I took my 400x out for a lfight in 20 mph winds, and the sucker just heli'ed down. It was the most amazing thing in the world man. I hope my XS will be able to do that. And very nice job on the covering! Just wait untill you see mine :-D!

Thanks for the kind words. It's all tape with some vinyl stars I had lying around. The Elevons are covered in Ultracote and the leading edges are stick-on Monokote trim sheet. The bottom is all blue tape with a couple white stars.

Thanks Capt G,

But what about the polished aluminum winglets? That's not just your average tape, is it?

Blagh..... Gonna have to wait probally another month for my astro 020 motor. I called up Zagi, and they said Astro doesn't really have a date when they will have their motors made, along with the sleeve( little alluminum tube that covers the 020 to fit on the XS motor mount perfectly). Guess I'm gonna have to try out the 400 Pusher motor. Ya'll should use the 1800 mah nimh battery that the XS package comes with. Its a little lighter than the 400z 1700 nicad. But it doesn't slowy taper power. The 1800 nimh has full power, and then suddenly cuts out like a gas plane would, its great!! Anyways, once I have my ship built, I will have some pix of it on here. Umm can't think of anymore to say, bye bye...

Got to do the 1st flights yesterday. This thing really flys great. Got 15,700 rpm on a full charge and my best duration was 7 minutes mostly wide open. good handling qualities too. Ordered another pack 8x1800 hipwr NIMHI but 2 oz lighter and 20 bucks less from cheapbatteries.com.

Tweet - It's the stock reverse timed Zagi 400 that it came with. My bad on the battery link - it should be cheapbatterypacks.com.

Capt. G,

I bought Sanyo 1950 FAUP's from Cheapbatterypacks.com. Looking forward to using those with my Astro 020. Almost finished (time is so short).

I have enjoyed the heck out of my 400X (stock except for a reverse timed motor).

There will be a new reversed Speed 400 motor out in March. The current ones are nice but are prone to burning up as they run so fast.

The Astro is great on the Zagi and other wings but make sure you get it with the programmable controller as the ones direct from Astro do not have a programmable controller with them. I sell a lot of these things and recently started only stocking the programmable versions. Aslo don't use ober 9 cells with the stock controller or all of the magic smoke could get out ;-)

The Zagi XS is a fantastic piece of engineering! I've been flying mine for about a month now and without a doubt it is hands down the most enjoyable to fly! Dual rates tame it, if needed, but otherwise it slices through the sky and is agile as a sparrow. This plane has no equal when it comes to durability! I can't even fathom getting bored with this one. I just need to buy enough battery packs to fly non-stop! I did have one problem with the motor warming and loosening the tie that holds the motor. (Drop of CA remidied that prob) I've also tried modifying the elevons and winglets using coreplast, not a good idea.......too heavy! Traded the vinyl hinge tape for 3M packing tape (great in cold, snowy conditions) and secured the ends of each elevon with stranded packing tape.

Yes your right about everything. The xs is by far the best zagi ever created. I havn't had that problem with my motor yet, and my zip tie is still nice and tight on the can. I plan on getting the Aveox 8 cell 3 turn brushless motor from trick rc(zagi). I spoke to the owner of Zagi, and he says that the aveox 8 cell 3turn smokes the astro flight 020. Also no adapter needed for the aveox. Its the same size as the stock 400 can.

Where are you getting the 8 turn from? I'd be interested, myself!

I have both motors and I actually prefer the Astro over the Aveox. No way the Aveox will "Smoke" the Astro in my opinion. The stock XS battery won't work though. I use an XT battery with the Astro and is very fast. Also the Astro fits fine without any mods. I use 2 zip ties on any brushless. Just make your holes on each side of the marked spot and it will work fine.

Default Better brushless?

Careful with that big XT battery in the XS. The XT 8 cell 1700 SCR racing batteries are indeed fast but the stock Astro Controller is only good to 9 cells (small ones at that). Even though it is made by Castle and is technically a Phoenix 25 it is stripped of any of the programming features (not good for Li-Po). The stock Phoenix 25 with all of it's added features can handle the bigger batteries fine.

As to which is better my guess is the recommendations from dealers and Mfg. are based on what they have in stock ;-) Astro has been really hit hard lately and is always out of stock. I am just getting my November orders shipped in April. So in a lot of cases what you hear is what people have in stock.

I fly with two other people who have xs. They both have the astro flight 020, and the stock 1800 mah nimh battery works great it in.

Yes, you are correct,
The stock 1800NIMH works great with the Astro 020 as does the older 8 cell 1700 and the older 8 cell 1400. These all work great with the 020. The 020 will reaqll come to life however with 9 or 10 cells but you need to be carefull about the ESC as the stock one that Astro sells will not handle that many cells.

The newer CBP 1800NIMH
[link=http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=1101]Click to see[/link] will actuallu out perform the stock 1800 XS pack by quite a bit in the same sixe pack.

Statement: I've drilled the dirt so many times with my XS (playing it hard and close) that I am having my battery jammed up under the bottom of wing and tray bottom! I am also having great difficulty keeping the nylon gears in my HS-81's, intact, as my elevons are forcing the pushrod system during the crash. Questions: Why did Trick RC make the battery tray compartment so large? Will HS-81 mg's solve the problem with servo savers attached? Does anyone know that with a strong impact the motor will be driven through the motor bulkhead? Observation: Two Zagis would be better than one! Solution: *Note to self.......Buy another Zagi XS so one can be flown while the other is in the basement for repairs!

*Don't let wife find note!

I have taken the block of foam that came spare in the box and cut it to fit in front and back of my battery. This way the battery has a tight fit in the hole. Lots of battery options is all I can figure as to the hole being big.

You will love the MG servos!

Default Prop for Astro 020

Here is a link to the one that works best.
[link=http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=480]Click to see prop[/link]
I have done a lot of testing and for this motor on wings it works great.
Duration is a hard one. The motors are 3-4 times stronger than a normal Speed 400 so if you say 4 times that means 1/4 throttle will run it as fast as WO on the Speed 400. The speed 400 with a 8 cell 1700 pack is 12-14 min so 3-4 times 12-14 min = .....

In reality you will fly it wide open most of the time as it is just so much fun and the run times will = what you have now with maybe a littlle longer time as the motors are more efficent.
