Default Air Hogs P-40 conversion

While at WalMart yesterday I happened upon an Air Hogs p-40 fomie on clearance for $9.00. This little foamie is a real beauty and I am nearly finised with an electric conversion. GWS 300 w/B Drive, 1200 mAh LiPo, 2 HS-55 servos--all up weight less linkages is under 8 oz.---airframe only is just 2 oz. I will post flight performance when I get is airborne.

Wingspan 26"
Wing Aera 130 sq in
Final Weight: 8 oz.
Wing Loaiding: 9 oz. per sq ft

my only concern is that the motor torque may be too much for the airframe...If its not too cold tomorrow am I might give it a go...I will post the results....

One of these days I'm going to get around to doing one of these conversions - your plane sounds like it will be right around the size and performance of my Rare Bear, which is a great plane, with elevator and ailerons.

If you would, though, tell me (this has kind of been holding me up) - just how do you open up the fuse on one of these things? Razor blade?

Thanks,
Dan.

She Flies!! Its hard to believe that $9.00 of foam and 5-6 hours of work yielded a flyable scale warbird! It climbs very briskly at full throttle and cruises just above half throttle. It has a groovy fell and is very stable. It will roll to the left but not the right--I attribute this to motor torque and relatively small ailerons. It also has the tendency to twist out of the top of loops--again I believe torque is the culprit.

As far as opening up the fuse goes I used an xacto knife and a razor saw with the back removed--so your working with only a thin blade. The fuse was seamed down the middle and the adhesive was easy to break through without damaging the foam. The only part that was tricky was around the nose where I had to break the air-motor free....

Thats amazing man! Who would of knew a 9 dollar air hog kit could become a flyable rc kit with a real radio, servos and motor. Try making the ailerons wing surface a bit longer. That should give you the rolls you want.

Unfortunatly I don't think spinmaster makes the p40 any longer let alone any other scale airplanes. Enlarging the ailerons would certainly improove the roll performance....

Here is spinmasters website:
http://www.spinmaster.com/products/

check it out and see if you can find anything else interseting..
