Default I want a fast, strong, 36 inch wing? Which one?

I was looking to build or purchase a 36 inch wing for a Mega brushless motor and Li Po power.

I am very concerned about "flap".

My main question is: Does the eZipper on http://www.ritewingrc.com/eZipper%20page.htm flap?

Are there other 36 inch wings that won't flap?

What about the Mini-Bee? How would that do with a brushless? Could it reach 100 MPH? Would it be strong enough

What motor What battery and how fast do you want it .My setups are not stock. They are arf's or rtf's.I can build you the fastest most stable ,best handling wing you have ever seen or flown. It would be a three spar w no hint of flap. Here are
a few zippers. Chris

I too have the E-Zipper MkII with a 16/15/3. I got mine from Wing Warrior & it is completely stock. In a dive, I'm probably closing in on 100mph (I guess). No flap at all.

would also look into the Devastator http://www.edgerc.com/Devastator.htm I hear many good things.

I have had 2 devistator's. They are not as stable as the zipper's.Du to the fact they are the overlord with the wing tips wacked off to make it 36 inches. They are a small wing with a long chord. They float well and are durable. The motor mount is poor too. You get what u pay for.

I'm no aerodynamics engineer, but I would think that a small wing with a long chord would be a good thing.

I would have to commend Justin (owner of EdgeRC) for his level of helpfulness & near constant presence on "the other" RC board. I personally have had a conversation with him on the phone for about 1.5hrs. What started as a technical question turned into a conversation about aerodynamics & all things RC flying. He has won a lot of friends due to this quality.

Not to take anything from you, Chris. You're probably a great guy. I just have never really had the pleasure of interacting with you very much.

Take care,
Brad

Ok thanks guys for the responses

And now I have another question

Would there be that much of a speed difference for a 48-inch wing versus a 36-inch wing for a given motor/ESC set-up.

The reason I ask is that I was also considering the Ele Bee 48 inch wing http://www.atlantahobby.com/shopexd.asp?id=768 for its molded EPP foam which seems much stronger and quicker to put together (no glue or adhesives) then the conventional foam kits. It appears that it could take a beating more than a conventional wing, but I am worried about a speed loss going to 48 inches.

What do you guys think?

Thanks Chris! I may just take you up on that.

cobratraxxas69,
I would think that all other things being equal, there would be a reasonably significant difference in speed comparing a 36" vs. a 48". Primarily due to increased drag. Speaking of drag, although I have no experience with the Ele Bee, it would seem reasonable that since it has a canopy, that it would also have higher drag than if it did not. Additionally, if it's anything like a Zagi 400X, it would have the tendency to break during crashes.

You pretty much just do not hear of fast 48" wings, at least not compared to their 36" counterparts.

For the record, the Devastator is NOT a cut down OverLord.

Thanks

First, I would like to commend you for giving credit where credit is due, although few hate to admit it!! And I would have to say that I DID come up with a winner I have tried recommend that he change the whimpy aluminum motor mount, but it fell on deaf ears. I have pesonally built more devastators than anybody in the world to my knowledge If you get one to build, first thing, is to throw away the motor mount and buy one from Weston at WWW.CombatWings.com, one of the best guys in the business Devastators that I have built have been radared at 135mph level flight, while being virtually bullet proof, and tipping the scales at 30oz. When I first came up with it, its wast what you would call a "stable" wing, in fact, just about the opposit. It does crave speed. The faster it goes, the better it handles. No comparison to anything WW has to offer, and a compltly different airfoil from the overlord, in fact if you need one of them can make you a deal on a couple (overlords). If anyone is in a need of a fast DURABLE 36" wing, I would be happy to accomadate you, as many worlwide can testify to the quality of the planes I build. A super stable wing that comes with a battery slot and a stainless steel motor mount is the mini XE2, or at least that is how I make them. I'm sure Weston would cut out the battery slot to fit the larger batteries, besides being a great guy. If you have any questions, you can email me direct as I don't come here often. Thanks AGAIN Ritewing for remembering from where it ACTUALLY came from

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dumb-n-dumber, Dumb-n-dumber2, thechosen1one, whatever you decide to go by this week...
All you had to do with the Devastator is cutting 6-inches off of the wingtips of the original 48-inch Devastator to make it faster (and credit was given).
This a designer of an aircraft does not make!!!!!!!!!!!
Some are dillusional out there folks.
I guess you can claim anything if you want and a few may chose to believe it.
Those with greater than room temp IQ's know the truth when they see it.
