Default 3d-Foamy F-18 Construction Issues

I'm trying to build the F-18 kit that I just received and I have the following issues...

Step 1 of the instructions refer to installing stock triangle balsa to the fuselage sides. The stock triangle was not supplied or listed in the kit contents.

Fuselage formers F1, F2 and F3 are shown on the plan as having the corners cut at diagonals presumably to accommodate the triangle fillets above, however the kit formers do not have this. They are square cut.

I’m having trouble identifying former F2 as there is nothing on the kit that seems to look like what is photographed in the instructions or shown on the plan.

What am I doing wrong here? Possible solutions may be that:
[ul][*] a) I have to go and buy the triangle fillet (in this case the kit is not a complete kit)[*] b) the instructions are for the beta version, however the web site download (www.3dfoamy.com) does not work (claims the file is missing)[*] c) the kit is too advanced for me?!?!?
[/ul]

Any help appreciated.

PS: I also have the F-15 kit, but I can’t find the instructions on the CD-ROM or web site. Anyone tell me where to get them from?

Thanks

Dave

Thanks, 3s 1500 Kokam, e-flite 370 GWS "C", and CC 25. It is a real solid performer for around 10 min. After that I need to get dressed and have a smoke.[sm=bananahead.gif]

I will get the manual to you in the AM

Just got my F-18 and trying to figure out the canopy. Can someone post a photo of the canopy installation? It seems like the clear moulded canopy is wider than the fuse? I don't want to start trimming it and cut it wrong. I have no idea how it should be trimmed or mounted and nothing in the plans or manual detailing the clear canopy installation.

By the way, the manual says to use CA on the fuse, which I did on most of it. Then I noticed on the plans it says not to use CA on the main fuse parts! [&o] Should I do something extra to reinforce the fuse given I used CA?

I'm having trouble with my F-18 also. The construction manual is crappy or the kits changed. Could I get a copy of the Correct manual for the kit. Also what did you do for the nose cone? It's supposed to be a basla block but its not in the kit. The guy who owns 3DFoany seems like he wants to do the right thing but mabye he should try to build one of his own kits. It would be an eye opener for him.
Thanks, Phil

Hey CPMAY,

I have never built a foam kit before so I have nothing to compare it to. But it seems well designed. But I have to admit at times I feel like I am putting together a jigsaw puzzle as there are still a few parts I have not figured out where they go. There should be an extra page or two added to the manual to update it and help out people who are not expert builders. But I can help you on the nose cone. There are 10 pieces of foam that you glue together to form a block that is somewhat already shaped. Then you sand the block to shape. I would have rather paid an extra $1 and gotten a solid block of foam semi preshaped. Waste of time and glue to put all those pieces together in my opinion. Here is a photo of what the cone is like before sanding. This should resolved your question.

I built mine from the free plans and the manual on the site. Also I made my nose and canopy from a solid pc of blue foam instead of laminating a bunch of layers togeather.
You may experience some difficulty after a hard landing from using ca on the fuse. Did you use it on the triangle stock too? That may still give enough strength. Since you are togeather now I wouldn't worry too much about it, just finish it up and fly it. You won't be disapointed!

The one with the clear canopy is the first one I built the one w/skull and crossbones is number two. Mental note you should never expose an open bottle of paint and a paintbrush to someone with previous exposure to alcohol.[sm=bananahead.gif]

Dude you will love this thing! e-flite 370, GWS C gears, and 3s 1500 lipo. After 10 min you will need to put your clothes back on and have a smoke.[sm=bananahead.gif][sm=stupid.gif]
