Firebat mods
Stick a 2:1 gearbox and a 10X7 APC prop on it and it flies great.
Also be sure to add 1/16" reflex to the ailerons, or it tries to nosedive into the ground.
I plan on adding balsa ailerons and coupling them to the canard for increased pitch response.

Hi Rob,
Where did you get the 2:1 gear box? Will this give it more power or slow it down? and what do you mean by
1/16" reflex?
I'm putting a firebat together and am interested in your modifcations.
Thanks

Firebat Gearbox
I'm also interested in ordering and building a Firebat. Tower Hobbies has a Great Planes Gearbox T400 1.7:1 Ratio Mfg part number 220. Is this the gearbox everyone is talking about?
Also, tech notes say the recommended battery is Great Planes Sanyo KR1100AEL which is a high capacity 4/5 A NiCd battery and can't be fast charged. It is a flat pack and not recommended by the builder of the Foxbat (Firebat) in Germany. He recommends a four over four rectangular pack because of CG probems. He goes on to state the KR designation cell types should not be used because they supply too little tension under load. Perhaps a Firebat flyer can shed some light on this for us and include a recommended NiMh battery in place of the NiCd. Would a 1500 Milliamp Hours NiCd sub C car battery work??
I have heard of two recommended props with the 2:1 gear reduction: an APC 9x6 and APC 10x7. What is the concensus?
Also read you do not give it up elevator on power on hand launch until you build up some speed as the delta wing has high drag and needs speed to climb. What do you Firebat flyers say.
Eagerly looking forward to your comments and I'm hoping the first flight will be successful
