VERY Cool! I've also working on my first "Big-N" with a 6 foot wingspan. It's a dual boomer pusher I plan to use for AP work. Check it out in the "Here's A Simple & Free..." thread in this forum. Last two to four pages should have some good pictures of the build. Keep us updated on yours...

I was an impluse build and without a clue as to what or how, the foams to cheap to dig into ( dowel stiffin'ers wiegh more than plane!)two 12year old servos from my fundango GP (one new one) beat-up sixCH, GWS reciever, old wing hinges some barbie skewers, heat-shrink an thread for alerons linkage, (pliot's on top of aleron servo an turns his head when I turn, fun stuff)the twins got a place for electrics &stuff under between fuses an dowels to tie or strap um to, Wait'in for flite packs like I waited on my DECODER RING off the back off a cereal box in 1957, (still wait'in ! did anyone get theirs?)ya'll's bub, scoooper

how scale are you going to make the xf-11 look? your plane is looking pretty sweet right now. are you goingto run counter rotating props like the real xf-11? that would be cool to tig something up like that.

Hey scooper, I finished that plane, but I need stronger motors. I'm going to add on GWS geared 300's with 1047 props instead of the small ones I had on it. I think it can handle the weight if I have enough power for the Stormlauncher set up as teh small blades I had on it with the small motors didn't provide nearly enough.

Where did you get that SE5, or is it a kit or something, I'm looking at one of the struts, it's in front of the ailerons, good call there, saves alot of hassle stuffing it in next to the aileron per the stock full scale look.

saucerguy: she's an G.P. ARF that I got and was SOOOOOO BADDDDDD'ly build from the factory , Looked like a 7 year old was handed a hand-full of balsa an a faded picure told to make ten of these an hour an put to work, I did a TOTAL REBUILD (could have scrach-built her faster) came out Okay but she's a hand-full with all the barn doors hang'in from the wing's, I don't think I'll ever buy another G.P.(greatPlanes)or any kits-ARF's as these scrach foamies are the hot set-up for me, This twin hughs is cost'in bout a 100$ an the trashed-out SE5a was 300+$(as are most ARF's by the time you slam um into something) Thanks for the nice comment( most liked her scale better)But I'm wih you, your bub, scoooper

I hear you on trying to compare the quality of work from these factories compared to what we do in scratch land. I put together a Guillow's SE5 kit, converted to eflight, even though it's a lazer cut kit, there is something lost in the process accuracy wise regardless, stringers not wanting to set correctly in the formers, pieces being slightly off you have to work around, generally, innaccuracies where the only fix is to scratch out the pieces yourself.
I got it together, but am going to blow up the plans and make a larger one, this time of course, I gotta scratch out the pieces and revisions to make work. I had a couple of stick built arf's that were sitting around for a while, I never flew them anymore because they simply needed re-engineering and the gear I put into them originally was worth alot more then the planes to me. After the coverings started falling away, I contemplated recovering them with Ultracoat, but after a while, I just said screw it, and tossed them into the garbage, ARF's are supposed to be flown until they can't fly anymore, then replaced, they are a dime a dozen and that's their real advantage in this venue. But.. I don't ARF or RTF any more at all, and like you, scratch building, especially in foam is really the way to go, regardless, my stick build scratch creations do remain higher on my list satisfaction wise regardless, but I do bounce between both types of systems pretty regularly.
SE5 shown in the photo.
