Default New Electric Flyer needs advice

At my last club meeting I became the proud owner of an Ikarus Extra 330 profile foamie. All my flying has been nitro or thermal flying. I thought this might be a fun plane to take out an throw around to learn some 3D before I start making toothpicks.

Anyway, since I'm clueless on electric performance, I went to the Great Planes website and used their set up assistant to try to figure out what I need or want. Based on a projected weight of 230g (about 8 ounces) (from the Ikarus specs), Great Planes recommended the following setup:

Best Combination
Performance 3D Flyer / High Performance
Motor 28-22-1380 / GPMG4505 (Rim-Fire)
Propeller 10x3.8 in., Slow Fly
Battery 640 mAh, 7.4v
ESC SS-12 / GPMM1810
ESC Motor Adapter Not Required
Current Draw 9 amps
Approximate Speed 19 mph
Approximate Thrust 20.2 oz.
Weight of Power System 2.89 oz.
Approximate Flight Time at Full Throttle 4 minutes
Watts per Pound 133.17

Based on greater expertise, will this combination provide me with decent beginning 3D performance? If I add an ounce of weight I can go with a longer battery life, or even go with the 11.1v.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Brad

Default RE: New Electric Flyer needs advice

bkdavy,

You probably want to post your question over on the 3D Electric Flying Forum.

What you have laid out there looks fine but I am sure you can get less expensive components elsewhere.
