anybody who is seeing slower speeds than before is a result of a slower route to our new servers. these servers are in virginia which is one of the epicenters of the internet in terms of access points. depending on your isp the route will be very short and fast and for other tier 2 or tier 3 providers it can be shorter or longer. if you have a slow route the site can appear slower. it can also be a temporary bad route or slow route which can resolve in a day or two for you.

if you are seeing slow times since post monday then you should do a traceroute and post it here so I can see where the slowdown is. if it is within our network we can easily address it. if it is with some other isp it is out of our control.

our last servers were in Ohio so for some that would be a shorter route than we have now and for others they could have a shorter route to the new servers in virginia.

Some website hosting quotes so far have ranged from $4k/month up to $7k/month for the level of service we feel we need. This gets us up to about $50k to as high as $84k per year in just hosting expense. Despite some very creative accounting from a few unnamed members who have the RCU team rolling in dollars and flying in corporate jets that unfortunately is far from reality. We are still working to pay off remaining debt and I've yet to personally make a dollar in net profit since starting RCU.
Marc, I don't have a MBA in marketing or business, so I have trouble understanding this.

Your spending $50K to $84K per annum to increase the speed for the 30% of the guys who already have hi speed connections (and therefore don't need the increased speed), knowing that the guys with dialup connections (who could use some help with speed) will not benefit.[]

I've been in retail management for 40 years and that cost/benefit ratio blows my mind!! I guess I am missing something.

cajun,

the site was slow for everyone. broadband users on rcu represent more than 60% of our membership. the payoff is worth it if you ask me or them. dial up users should be same or faster. depends on their route.

I'm faster. Got dial-up connected @45333. Dial-up IS slow but this site is faster now although not kickin' like a T2 would.

In the old days this is the point you tell them to type some C:\dos\format comands and have someone reformat their hard drive. Boy does that bring back memories.
