Yeah Crash, you're right! I just looked at mine and it makes no sense.

What's goin on Marc?

I just checked my profile and it indicates we are only allowed 125 characters and it made me change mine.

So why the change?

Hooked and Crash,
Yes, there was a change in the way the software deals with signatures. The length of the sig line was decreased. The change was made because too many people started running advertisements in their sig lines, listed EVERY plane they owned, or just were taking up too much room. It took up server space, and made the threads harder to read. There were reduced to a size that should still allow for a good signature, but cut out some of the crap.

Hope this helps.

Ken,
I am not sure where the 254 came from, I am only allowed 125 characters in my signature. I would welcome 254 cause mine would fit then.

Hooked,
When I went to the setting page mine said the same as yours. Clear out what you have currently and then re-enter it and you should be able to go out to 254.

Ken,
I just noticed that I can't have 255 characters unless I am an upgraded member. So how do you like my signature now?

With the 160,00 some people on RCU I was not targeting you with my signature. Some people join RCU after they buy an airplane / heil that they have questions about... They happen to notice that plane / heli in my signature and know that I own or owned the model and can ask questions about it.

Consider me on signature strike... pay to have a larger signature? I can understand the advertisements in sigs...

I should go on signature strike too!

Anyway the original thread I moved to the forum support forum since it pertained to the "forum". I know that many sites either don't allow any sigs at all like RCG while some had offered short ones. After MUCH browsing here on RCU the length of some of these sigs was getting out of hand. It slows page loading times and the clutter makes it harder to read down a page and requires significantly more scrolling.

The limit makes the page easier to read, less cluttered, less scrolling, less advertising/spam abuse and I'm sure some benefits I have not mentioned.

You can say most of what you need to with the new limits and if you want to list your planes, cars, engines, etc then go to our user reviews section and give a rating on a product. Then when a member clicks your profile he can see the stuff you rated and know what you owned AND what you thought about it.

Overall I think it makes for much easier reading and enjoyment of the forums and I know it is not a bad thing since the pushback on this has been so small. I got more pushback when changing colors!

I allowed upgraded members to have a couple extra lines and characters since there are very few upgraded members in relation to our total membership and of those very few had sigs more than 125 chars. Before we allowed 6 lines. Even upgraded members (and me) are limited to 4 total.

125 characters and 2 lines works okay for me.

Maybe you should limit characters and lines for posts too!

Nor I with you Crash. I just view those lengthy lists of aircraft as "Hey everybody, Look what I've got!" I find it somewhat materialistic. I believe very few signatures of this type were designed to attract questions about certain models. (Granted, some were, but most were not) If I want to learn anything about a certain model, I'll go review it here, or elsewhere. I've noticed that the lists have been getting longer and longer and was wondering just how large they would mutate.

Just a suggestion--if you want people to be able to access what you've written about a particular product, why not submit a user review of said product as suggested by Marc, and simply put somthing to the effect of "See my profile for product reviews!" in your signature line. If they still have questions, they can post or PM you.

I have no problem with the new format, just glad to know what it is. (But one extra letter for the upgrade?)

But the signature strike sounds like fun anyway, maybe a signature picket line could be formed.

Would you please explain this to me? As on my account page, forum settings:
>>>>
Signature
(Max. 254 chars. 2 lines max)

Upgraded members (Power/Platinum)
have 255 char and 4 line maximum
<<<<

I am Platinum. Paid TWICE last year, April and Oct.

I am restricted to the 2 lines with 254 characters. I sent an email about this, but it was never answered.

Thank You.
