Default Mozilla Firefox and RCU Problems...Arrrg

Are any of you that are using Mozilla Firefox having this sort of trouble or is it just me and what am I doing wrong??

The photos below show what happens very regularly when I try and open a thread or open a thread in a new window...The second pic is what happens if I click on a link such as "sign out"

What the heck is up and what can I do to fix it??? It's like the pages never really load compleletly according to the little status bar or whatever...Or it takes an extended period...

I have a good internet connection and no other problems with any other website??

Here is what I get..This use to NEVER happen and it just started a month or so ago...

It's getting on my nerves a little bit... [:@]

Thanks..

Chuck

I use Firefox at home exclusively (Fedora machine). I have had NO problems.

It appears that it doesn't know that a CFM file is something it knows how to open. This is probably a plug-in problem. Check your Preferences (Edit | Preferences) and then find the tab about add-ons.

Try switching to Google Chrome for your browser.

Yes sir I even downloaded a fresh version un-installed and re-installed it with the same results....Something is up and apparently it's just me...I was thinking back and remember I changed from AVG to Avast free virus software a month or so ago...I hadn't put 2 & 2 together till just now...I may try swapping the virus software out and see if that helps...Darn I like the new Avast cause it's more purity than AVG....

i haven't used IE in a decade. firefox/mozilla has worked much better over the yrs (for me). built spell checker/popup blocker, far fewer spam and virus issues. more but i'm drawing a blank at the moment.

something is corrupting your firefox files, i would run a check disk on your c drive and have it check for bad sectors, i use firefox and chrome exclusively, zero issues, the View menu selection is set to utf-8, this is critical.....this sets the decoding for the page.

I've had the same things happen as well and I have the latest Firefox browser, in fact just last night. You can't reload the page either by using the blue circle arrow. I have to go back to bookmarks and redo it. I'm not going to change my browers just because of one site.

I and many others have been getting timed out on a regular basis even with small posts in a short amount of time. I've never had these types of problem over at RCGroups. I've talked with some that I regularly chat with about just moving over there and ditching RCU all together. These problems ahve existed for quite a while with no resolve and it's very frustrating[:@]

Blessings,

Jay

I use Firefox almost exclusively also . . the only time I've had any problem is with an Extension acting up - usually the one associated with my HP printer (ugh!!). "Go To" -> Tools > Add-Ons > Extensions and disable all of your add-ons then re-enable them one at a time to find the bad one. . .
.
.
Also, for anyone interested, I've attached a screen-grab of the Norton Website report of every RCU page. They are not impressed. . .

FYI...our toolbar is not a threat.  Some checkers report them because they require two way communication to update so they get flagged. this however is not a threat and is typical of toolbars.  our toolbar has been in service for 8 years and the code has been unchanged.  it's completely benign.

on the other issue above it appears that the browser is not seeing the page correctly.  we compress our pages before sending and some firewalls might affect the compression and deliver gibberish to the browser or not recognize it as html.  this is not the fault of our site.  we use web standards to compress and deliver.  some virus blockers or firewalls are notorious for not recognizing certain standards

My computer expertise led me to search google.

"CFM file is a ColdFusion Markup Language document. Adobe ColdFusion is an application server and software development framework used for the development of computer software in general, and dynamic web sites in particular."

So your issue is not firefox, something was changed on the server that host's these forums. These changes are nessary to improve this site, and a host of other issues that would be way over your head in technical jargon.

I would think updating adobe flash may be the fix.

Coincidence or not?? I have a few computers and all were having the same issue...I just swapped back to AVG Antivirus on one of them and that computer seems to be acting normal again...

Like I said above it dawned on me that I had switched to Avast on all of the computers about the same time which was about a month ago...I didn't pay attention exactly when the RCU issues began but it appears it very well may have been the Avast software...

Thanks Allot for the suggestions...

Chuck

Hey Chuck,

You would not believe how most of my calls are resolved. Most of them are due to software installs gone bad, or altered some system settings such as your security software.

Glad you remembered what you changed on your computer since it last worked.

Hey. I use only Firefox, and have Avast as an anti-virus. Never had a problem with RCU. I know this dosn't help, but for your info. One other thing, we live in the bush, so we only have dial-up. I have no idea if that matters.

Yeah..On that first computer I swapped out the antivirus software and did the flash player update at the same time...Didn't think of that...

On another computer I only did the flash player update and it "seems" to be acting better so I'll give it a couple days and see how this one goes...

You have the new version of Avast with the orange taskbar icon rather than the blue icon??

It definitely seems to be one or the other....

Well that didn't take long...The flash player only did not fix it..

BTW I'm running XP on 3 of the computers and Windows 7 on this new laptop...

Gonna dump Avast on this one too and see how that goes...

I use Firefox almost exclusively as well. (I've used Chrome, IE8, Safari, and a few others).  No problems with RCU. But the discussion wandered towards security packages. Comcast provides (as a surrogate vendor) a security suite. Used to be McAfee. All was fine. Recently they switched to Norton. Seems that Norton installs an add-on that includes a couple of menu bar items. It "appears" that when ever this add-on is "tweaked" (non-technical term for heck-if-I-know-what-I-just-did) my machine looses internet connectivity. My other machine with XP (this one has 7) and Firefox keeps on "truckin'" but to get the 7 machine back I need to manually reset the old router (Linksys). I've swapped all the hardware to fresh stuff to no avail. After a couple of boot cycles things magically disappear. All the time the XP machine is just luvin' life.

IE8 doesn't appear to "hang" the internet connection through ... Comcast tech support points to Norton. Norton points to Comcast saying that it's an internet connectivity issue. I LOL when the tech said that! I was using a VOIP telephone that requires a viable internet connection - and I'm talking with him (India). He refused to entertain any discussion until the internet connection was re-established and hung up. Things that make your day ... [:@]

ThunderbirdJunkie had another issue with a page loading. This time, however, he screencapped it!
However, PNG file extensions are not supported [:@]
