Head Tracker to Graupner MC24 MC-24 (solution for Quanum 3 / X-1000)
Hi
to all those that suffer with the same issue connecting a head tracker to the Graupner MC24
got the Quanum 3 and used the original cable. always got the "no signal" message from the MC24.
went back to hobbyking and got the X-1000 where the description lists the MC24 as a compatible device. using the DIN original cable did not bring a signal either besides it's the wrong port. so both original cables can be disposed.
two key factors when building your own cabel: use a old headphones 3.5mm STEREO jack and NOT MONO like the original Quanum. the tip of the jack will be your signal. do NOT connect the two upper connectors on the stereo jack as you have to do for some other Graupner's! another key elemet is the use of a resistance. this will go into your signal cable. i've read values from 100-390Ohm. I only had a 420 laying around but it works perfect. surely that Ohm value can be perfected by someone with more skills in that area.
the black ground signal will be connected with both, the tracker AND the stereo jack on the middle connector. the red pluspole will ONLY go onto the tracker cable and NOT to the jack!
sadly we have to feed the tracker with power which most likely will come from the goggles-battery. i've made a connector betwen battery and goggles. a lot of work for this tiny cable but it's worth the effort. the nice thing is that both trackers work with this solution. other trackers with the same signal should also work.
keep in mind that the MC24 only passes channel 1-8 to the student. therefore channel 6-8 are used for the 3-axis gimbal. set this on the Quanum via USB config tool and adjust the MC24 accordingly if you use these channels for other functions like flaps, gear, etc. at last activate channel 6-8 in the student setting and flip the switch - the MC24 will now hopefully remain silent! - mine does
