Default 900Mhz antena question....

The question is simple.... Flat patch 8dBi or Yagi 12dBi? Which is better for a FPV base. The TX is a 850mw. Thanks!

That is a tough question to answer unless you specify the vertical and horizontal beamwidth for each design.

It should be obvious that the higher the gain, the narrower it will be. And getting too narrow will only make aiming it harder and harder.

ok. I want to increase my general range. Do the Yagi antenna design requires more directional input than the patch antenna design? I know that with the patch antenna I have to fly "in front of the antenna for reception. I guess my question is: Can I get better onmidirectional reception with the yagi than with the patch? Sorry if I am not very clear....Thanks!

Yagi antennas are usually higher gain at the expense of beamwidth. A patch like this one is a good compromise. Often overlooked is the ability, or lack thereof, of an antenna to reject signals coming from odd angles and from the rear. Yagi antennas are usually not as good at blocking interference from the rear. Patch antennas are usually fairly good at it.
